The Shakespeare Bust is about to give up it's secrets!
“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other word would smell as sweet.” (Romeo and Juliet)
Well It's not really a sculpture of Shakespeare but it played one on TV.
After much looking, I've found the sculpture that was used to make the famous Shakespeare Bust.
It's actually ceramic from 1900. Quite a few edits to make but the collar and the face are unchanged. Unchanged with the exception of a mustache and beard added!
The only casting I could find is currently speeding it's way from a gallery in Europe to my humble home.
I wanted my closest Bat-Friends to be the first to know with this first public post.
More to come soon!!!
I haven't been able to sleep until I landed this one!

That's amazing!
"Batman told him a super funny joke. When the creature didn't laugh, that was proof!"

Exciting for sure... but what exactly do you mean with 'moustache and beard added'?
Do you mean there weren't any before and this actually wasn't a Shakespeare bust to begin with?
Or the existing moustache and beard on the bust were small and they added to it?

Thanks Guys!!!
No, it's not a bust of Shakespeare at all.
Looking through a few million busts, I understand why this one appealed to them according to the script. The collar is open on this chap and which made for a perfect camouflage for the seam between the head and bust.
Yep, no one had ever seen the back! It was the main photo request I had when Scott got a chance to see it at auction!
Yep, the mustache and beard were added to it and the top was cropped to make his bald pate.
This is a photo I took and you can clearly see the line of demarcation of the added whiskers.
The curls on the side, triangular-ish highlights in the eyes , unusually large pupils and scored iris all match up...

This is amazing detective work.
Do we know who the subject of the original bust was? Christopher Marlowe? Edward de Vere? (Shakespeare-nerd humor perhaps only the Puzzler could love. )
