Never heard this about Van William and the Corgi 268 and I think you've got the box images backwards. The first style box featured The Black Beauty and it's the car with the spoked wheel hubs. The 2nd edition/release has the GH image and the smooth wheel hubs.Van demanded royalties for the Corgi Black Beauty so Corgi removed the Green Hornet image and replaced it with the Black Beauty for the second boxes.

Very informative, John. The insert for the BB on the left shows Kato. I assume GH is beside him, just like the second insert. Interesting that the likenesses appear on the insert, but not on the exterior box of the first release.

Yes,the GH is present. Being original/mint I didn't want to stress the cardboard inner plinth back graphic wings. Both backgrounds are the same.
