Batman Props and Costumes on Heritage

Post by SteveA »

I just found a bunch of Batman Props and an Auction for a Batman and Robin Costume on Heritage. The Batman And robin Costume is not completely authentic, they do admit to some reproduction parts. One being the Robin mask made by our own Williams Studio 2. The gloves on Robins costume look a little to large for my taste as well. The Also have a batmobile phone, Bat-Shield, Riddler Jacket, Robin Batarang,And Batgirl Gloves.

Opps: I see A. Pennyworth beat me to the punch and already posted it another thread. My Apologizes.

Wow, very cool to see these being sold as a set. I’m looking forward to taking a closer look at these images when I’m on my actual computer and not my phone.

One initial observation though, with a reserve of half a million bucks, you’d think someone at the auction house may have taken three seconds to Google which network “Batman” aired on… 🤣

 The Batman and Robin costumes from the Azarian collection sold on December 17, 2019 in a "Profiles in History" auction for $832,000, including buyer's premium, according to this article:

https://news.justcollecting.com/batman- ... burt-ward/

I guess $500,000 is... fair? Wow!

Hard to believe that, in 2005, original Batman and Robin costumes sold for $35,850 and $23,900, respectively, according to this article from 2018:

Wow, seems like a lot for something that is not 100% original. Batman's Costume: The cowl shell is a reproduction, covering original, The cape is soiled but the color is great, and the snaps seem sewed on poorly (Original?), the Bat-tights look to be the right color and type, but no sweat stains, tears or scuff marks. Batman's Boots look right but I never knew they had black trimming around the top? So for sure the gloves, trunks and cowl covering are originals.
Robin's costume: The mask, belt and gloves are reproductions. the gloves sure don't look as good as Gasper made gloves would be, also way to big, so not professional. The boots look right but the opening on the top of them seems to go to far down on the instep.(reproductions or original?). I would have WAY to many questions about these before bidding that much. Maybe our own expert Chuck could chime in and give an opinion.

Personally I would rather have a complete set of Williams 2 Costumes, reproductions "Yes" but screen accurate. :D

They state that the boots are also reproduction.

Pretty valid concerns, SteveA.

I think James just wants to keep his suits! LOL!

Yep, the reserve is pretty high for a less than "Boy Wonder".
This is another velveteen vest and single layer cape.
I really think Western made these to rent back in the day. I think this is the third I've seen.

The capes in the screen test were single layer but the collars were different.

Buuuuuuuuuut, if I had the money... ;)

So did Comisar end up with multiple Robin vests? I thought I recalled him selling one that you guys had replaced the emblem on via Prop Store back in 2018? And sure enough...

That would be the third one I remembered. I also made that belt. The other vest in this fabric had a larger emblem with the colors reversed.

I don't want to hijack the conversations about the items up for auction so I've started a separate thread as it's adjacent - I think I have figured out why the lettering changed on the Bat-Shield over the course of the show!

Had a great chat with James about the Robin costume and a couple of other pieces in the auction.
He is very concerned that it be presented correctly to collectors and is working on the listings.

I'm also hoping to get a few new images of the Batman utility belt to screen match to.
I think I know which one it is but I need a couple of detailed images to confirm.

I am very grateful for collectors like him that not only collect and protect but also share these pieces with geeks like us!

That’s great to hear! The sheer fact he’s open to dialogue is fantastic in its own right. Let me know if there’s anything I can help with running down.
