Tariffs increase Corgi Batboat to $85 plus postage
Corgi wrote tarriffs will increase the Batboat price from $30 to $85.
Corgis said tariffs are fluid so it could change. I thought lower price toys were exempt?

I'm going to preemptively play traffic cop for a second here, let's keep any responses to this thread specific and A-Political, as per our hot-button policy. Thanks in advance, Chums!
Re: Tariffs increase Corgi Batboat to $85 plus postage
To my knowledge, the only tariff in place that would impact goods, like the Corgi cars, coming from the United Kingdom would be a 10% baseline tariff.
However, according to Corgi boxes, despite claiming “manufactured BY [i.e., not “FOR”] Hornby Hobbies, LTD,” the cars are actually “made in China.” Thus, I am only guessing that they may be subject to the 145% tariff in addition to the 10% baseline tariff on the UK.
Additionally, there was a de minimus exemption, which was closed, but I believe that closing begins in May. I’m guessing the bat boats are pre-orders that won’t be filled until after May.
So, if the tariffs are not lifted or amended, and if they do apply because the cars are manufactured in China, Corgi is currently setting their pre-order pricing based on the possibility that the tariffs on Chinese goods won’t be resolved by the time the vehicle is shipped.
Having said that, $85 represents a 183 1/3% increase (well above the tariffs) and seems inordinately high (although the United Kingdom ALSO imposes tariffs on foreign countries for products coming in, that should have been already figured into the original $30 price, so it still doesn’t explain the extra charge).

Well that sinks it….
Some days you just can't get rid of a ... SHARK!

A real shame, but don't lose your head and pay scalpers- Corgi keeps a pretty good stock and these Tariffs will be short term, mark my words.

Re: Tariffs increase Corgi Batboat to $85 plus postage
Okay. I just deleted a post that did not heed the "A-politcal" warning. Do not discuss the Tariffs themselves, the policy makers or any of that. It's pretty cut and dry here. There's a tariff. The overall price to get it went up. Hopefully the price goes back down or maybe the tariff might not apply in some territories. Buy or pass.
Re: Tariffs increase Corgi Batboat to $85 plus postage
I'm excited to get the boat, but I'm willing to wait until the price comes back down. It's so hard to predict what will be hard to get and what wont. I bought all of the Ben Cooper Superhero figures in a lot to make sure I got Batman & Superman and I swear I see them every time I go to Target now. It seems to happen to me every time I buy more than one of something too. Pretty sure Corgi will put out multiple versions of the boat too and I'll be good with any of them.

Had the same thing, Randy. Didn't want or care about Joker, Wonder Woman or Batgirl but I bought the set to get Batman and Superman. My wife texts me pictures of the figures at Target to ask if I want her to grab any.
At the end of the day I can live without any of these things, so I'm good.

My friend, Paul, and I call it “The Law.” There are multiple aspects/corollaries to “The Law, such as:
If you buy it, thinking they will be hard to get or will be a good investment, they will be plentiful and will drop in value;
If you wait for the right time and price, they will sell out and go for high prices on secondary markets;
If you bid on it, hoping to get it, you’ll be outbid (typically by a dollar or less);
If you don’t bid on it, believing you’ll get outbid anyway, it will sell for next to nothing.

Spot on Biff!
I'd add- if you buy it at full retail you will come across it at 75% off in a clearance section.
