My Attempt at a Cowl

Post by Queazer »

Hello all,
I've got a friend's 50th birthday party coming up which is fancy dress with a theme of 60s, 70s or 80s. Well, Batman is 60s, right?
So, I am endeavouring to knock up a quick (and cheap) outfit and I have just finished the cowl:

I think it looks okay.
I've got 2 weeks left to put the rest together.

Hey and welcome to our board!

Kudos for taking this project on! Having tried to make cheap/DIY cowls in the past, I know how tricky it is! Well done for completing yours!

Be sure to show us the fully-completed suit.

For a very first attempt at making a cowl, you did a hell of a job. From what I have seen and read here on this board, cowls are not easy. You did an admirable job. As Ben said, be sure to share pics of the rest of the suit when completed.

I totally forgot to ask - What did you do for your shell?

Thanks guys. The shell is based on an idea I found on Instructables where someone made a 'duct tape batman mask'. Basically, I wrapped my head in clingfilm (plastic wrap), stuck on layers of masking tape and then finished with a few coats of PVA glue.

It's a bit lumpy and a bit too soft but it can be cut with scissors and it's quick and easy to do.

In that first photo - where you are wrapped in plastic wrap - it reminds me of False Face!

Haha! I should have just stuck with that - would have saved myself a lot of effort. :D
