A Bat-Mannequin for my birthday
Thanks to a kind donation from a friend, I snagged a free mannequin today. Now I can display my '66 Bat Costume with pride. Hopefully, my cats will give it a wide berth while I'm out tonight celebrating my birthday.

Happy Birthday JB! Congrats on the mannequin!
Re: A Bat-Mannequin for my birthday
Do you plan to put Chuck Williams Adam West bust to replace the head then put the cowl over it?
Re: A Bat-Mannequin for my birthday
I actually spoke to Chuck about getting a display face, and he says I would need to cut the face off my mannequin to make it work. I don't have any cutting tools that can do that, and right now I am a bit reluctant to cut this guys face off. The head does not detach from the torso, so I wouldn't be able to replace it with a styrofoam one. I may feel differently later, but for right now I'm leaving him as is.

For those wanting mannequins, watch for stores that are closing that have clothing departments. They will sell the fixtures for cheap. You can also check directly with the managers of stores that AREN’T closing to see if they are getting rid of any mannequins. Sometimes department stores like Macy’s or JCPenney’s have mannequins that they will sell just to get them out of the way. They will replace them with newer ones. You can also check with businesses that specialize in selling used store fixtures, but they usually charge more. Still will be cheaper than new, though.
Another way is to check with the Habitat for Humanity Restore, or similar charity that sells store fixtures from time to time. I walked in one and they had about 50 store mannequins, which I could have bought for two dollars apiece. The faces were blank, but the heads were removable and the bodies were like new.
I thought about getting some to display my 1960s Avengers TV show line and 1998 Avengers movie J. Peterman wardrobe items. However, I love my wife and wanted to stay married, so I didn’t buy any.

Some days you just can't get rid of a ... SHARK!
Re: A Bat-Mannequin for my birthday
I've added some stuffing (plastic bags) to the back of the head to bring the face closer to the front of the cowl. The nose won't go any further as the cheeks are up against the front of the cowl, but the fit is now an improvement.
Playing with the idea of painting the face but may leave it as is. He actually has eyelashes.

Re: A Bat-Mannequin for my birthday
BAT 77, i actually did this in order to add a Chuck's AW face to my 43 serial mannequin. I just used a common hacksaw and some duct tape. Made a HUGE improvement. PM me if you have any questions.BAT 77 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 11, 2023 8:17 amI actually spoke to Chuck about getting a display face, and he says I would need to cut the face off my mannequin to make it work. If it’s too hard to lay the mannequin down to cut with a hacksaw, a Dremel might work.
Re: A Bat-Mannequin for my birthday
UPDATE: I probably will end up getting the AW display face, but not for a while since I'm currently not working.

Re: A Bat-Mannequin for my birthday
Great idea! Where can one get a mannequin for cheap or free?
I'm a fan of Batman 1966 and other Batman movies too
Re: A Bat-Mannequin for my birthday
Check for stores with clothing departments that are closing. They usually sell fixtures very reasonably, although it’s likely “first come, first served.” Also, check with used store-fixture sales businesses. You can sometimes find pretty decent buys for mannequins on eBay and charitable organizations.
shopgoodwill.com frequently has mannequin heads and partial torsos. Even now, there are several female mannequin heads and parts available there, in case someone was looking for a female mannequin head to display their Batgirl cowl or Catwoman mask and ears.
