tight dying

Post by bj180sx »

OK I know its hard to tell from pics. I follows directions as accurately as possible. Its not dry and there are no streaks. Camera makes it look like there are. So it has a blue hue to it. Since I haven't seen anyones tights in person I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

What he said.

Also, try a few with flash and without flash. Possibly indoor and outdoor as well.

Looks fine to me. As long as there are no streaks or spots, you're good to go.

OK great. That's a big relief. I thought it was too much blue. I have read the thread on tight dying 4 times and thought I missed something. Plus I have been freeze framing the movie for comparison.

Does read a bit too blue to me but being a neutral "color" it is hard to tell.
Room light can effect it in photos.

It should look like a warm grey with a hint of lavender. Pinky-grey not so much a blue grey.

This is a swatch of the RIT formula that uses navy blue compared to the actual original costume.

With no flash, under shop lights, it should look kinda like this...

Most folks here use a tiny bit (1/8-1/4 teaspoon) of Purple with the RIT Pearl Grey to warm it up and away from the blue side it naturally leans toward.
That gets you a nice but not super accurate anal-retentive color. ;)

Then I think it's the way it's photographing.

It's reads pretty blue on my monitor.

If you can, get a photo outside in daylight.

You've got a good depth of color.

Depending what it looks like outside, I might dye it with just another 1/8 teaspoon of purple and see what you get.

Or, if it works for you, leave it alone! Even color with a good depth goes a long way!

Chuck, when you say to add another 1/8 teaspoon of purple, does that mean he'll be putting it in the machine again as currently dyed or is he going to be stripping and dyeing again? Thanks!

Just adding. Not stripping a thing at this point.

Anybody have opinions on Unitard vs. Leotard & Leggings?

Correct, just add the small amount of dye to the water and dye them as they are. You don't have to strip them.

Well, the originals were two pieces.

Even more important is that it gives a better fit with the trunks in my opinion.

Still having issues. Not completely dry but added 1/8 teaspoon of purple and its almost a tad darker blue now. Am I getting closer? I don't want to add too much purple.
