Batgirl's First Halloween
I've had several custom bat-projects in the works for awhile now, but I finally finished one because I had a real deadline: baby's first Halloween! I didn't do it alone, however. My mother sewed the cape and cowl from my patterns.
Here are a few photos. I'll provide some of the costume details in a follow-up post.

I got in on the action, too. The Batman outfit comes from my father's collection, so I don't know the costume maker(s). Some of the eagle-eyed members of this forum will probably recognize parts of it.
If all goes well, you're looking at our third generation of '66 Bat-fan.

That has made all my family smile from ear to ear!
Just beautiful - both the costume and the little crimefighter!
Great work!

Here's a shot of the costume pieces. I bought the onesie, tights and socks at Babies 'R Us and Amazon. I made the artwork for the onesie in Adobe Illustrator and applied it using three colors of heat press vinyl.
For the cowl, I made a simple structure out of the stiffest, non-fusable interfacing I could find. I created patterns for the face mask and ears which have a slightly fuzzy and darker purple material. I included a layer of .5mm plastic styrene inside the ears to keep them stiff. Baby's grandma did the rest of the magic.
This is the first such project I've attempted, and I learned a valuable lesson about working with infants. I measured for the cowl about 16 days before Halloween and tacked on nearly an extra inch so it wouldn't be too tight on her head.
After the addition of fabric and more than two weeks of growing, it wouldn't fit over her forehead!
We simply attached the face mask a little lower than originally planned, but it doesn't conform as closely to her face as it would have.

She is adorable.

She's no bigger than the Shakespeare bust! What a cute baby and a great outfit! So, is this going to be a yearly project for you? If so, you'll be an expert costumer in just a few years!
Thanks for a great start to today!

Thanks, all! I definitely owe a debt to the knowledge and talent (and willingness to share) on this forum. I have gleaned a ton of information and reference images from your work and discussion.
This project was a delight, so I'm sure there will be custom Halloweens for years to come. And if I raise her right, at least some will be Bat-themed.

By golly, the incredible cuteness factor of these photos of your Batgirl has set off my angina! Excuse me while I take my bat-pills.
Great costume and adorable baby. You're a lucky man!
