Vote for Robin!

Post by wally wingert »

As I mentioned in another post...I have purchased two great lightweight satins for a new Hot Toys Robin cape that Tony Mei and I are working on.

Since this is a change of topic...a vote...I'd like your opinion.

Here are the two fabrics side by side, with the original cape laid on top...

No flash was used by the way...

As you can see, each of the fabrics seem to be directly one step golder or one step yellower than the original...

My inclination would be towards the "gold" for a push in the accurate direction rather than the more saturated yellow that is similar to the color that we all used to imagine it perhaps was in our minds eye.

Gold/Champagne rather than the yellower one.

That yellow really pops but the gold seems closer to being authentic. How is your approach here different than for Adam's cape (trying to recall what you did to his) ? If you went for accuracy, then I'd say the yellow.

I lean toward the gold as well, even though it seems almost "sparkly" under the flash. Probably will look normal under natural light.
(Of course you could also throw both fabrics in the washer and see if the colors run into each other and average out... ;) )

I am not an expert on the original colors in the Robin costume, but I think the gold looks better. The yellow is a bit too bright for the application.

I just got the first stab at the new Robin cape back from my seamstress Karyn. The fabric looks amazing and the length, I feel, is perfect.

I'm having her redraw the pattern so his cape flares out a tad bit more at the bottom. I think a 1/2" on either side would do it.

Stand by for phase 2!
