Batman ornament art piece

Post by wally wingert »

I'm not sure if this goes in the Crafts section or the Merchandise section, but if it's in the wrong section I guess the mods will move it.

My pal Pete Tassler came up with a cool idea. He recently gifted me with one of the Adam West "LIFE" magazine Christmas ornaments from Hallmark. He suggested we make backgrounds up with the "LIFE" magazine cover, but totally remove Adam from the graphic.

That way when you mount the ornament over it, it's like the cover has come to life. I haven't gotten the shadowbox yet, but I think I'll do an 8 X 10 frame with navy blue satin matte around the image.

Then I'll float Batman over the background at the exact point he needs to be to replicate the famous cover.

But for now, here he is just laying on the cover art. I think this'll look awesome!

For those of you who may want to do this, I printed the LIFE magazine cover at 7" high and it worked out perfectly for the 6" ornament.

I've done this and it looks great hanging by my work table.

Wally, make sure you meaure the depth of the shadow box, the standard one I bought at the craft store wasn't deep enough if I used the back that came with it. I had to make a new back so Batman's finger wouldn't be pressed against the glass.

Here's what my friend Pete (the guy who came up with the idea) did for his. Adding the red Batmobile pinstriping was a cool idea.

I'm planning on making a slightly larger version with a navy blue satin matte around it so the entire cover is unencumbered, and the piece becomes more about the entire cover than just the figure.

I also am going to float the figure on a metal rod (mounted in his back) so it appears more 3-D. Gotta consult with a framing expert on how to achieve it. Stay tuned!

Hey westbatman, can you post a pic of yours? I'd LOVE to see it!

Fabulous! Really great! I took mine to a professional framer and it's going to be very elaborate. A bit more elaborate than I had planned on, frankly. But when he started laying it out on the computer to show me what the finished product would look like I couldn't resist!

Batman will be floating about 1/2" away from the background to give it a 3-d look. With a dark blue and gray matte scheme. I'll post photos when I pick it up on the 12th!

Keep those pics coming gang!

That's actually my eBay listing. Thank you to all of those that have purchased from me!
It really is a great inexpensive way to display that ornament all year round.
