Matty Cowl Mod
Greetings Citizens-
I was very interesting in changing the look of my Matty Cowl.
I contacted Scott Bayles and offer to send him my Cowl so he could make a tutorial video of his mod.
here is a link to the video.
I expect the cowl should be arriving next day or so, I will post before and after shots.
Let the Customizing Begin!!

The tutorial has been posted. Unfortunately, I cannot get at it here from work, but I will as soon as I get home this afternoon! From the teaser pic, it looks fantastic!

Well here it is and I must say it is an improvement.

here it is out of the box and side by side with Chuck.
lets see yours

Looks much better - enjoy!
Re: Matty Cowl Mod
I will be doing mine shortly. I still can't understand why they wernt made this way to begin with. Still not a bad cowl for the money, but this is a DEFINITE inprovement! Looks good.
Re: Matty Cowl Mod
Got my eyebrows off this afternoon and first coat of paint is on. This shouldn't be too bad.
Re: Matty Cowl Mod
Matty cowl repaint is finished. It just looks so much better now. I'll try and get pics ip shortly.

Re: Matty Cowl Mod
Great photos Batrunner!!!
It's easy to see why they made them this way.
It's less expensive to sew and print these.
Having a pretty good idea of how much people would be willing to spend, Mattel simply worked backwards from that price and this is what you get for that amount.
The QC of the Rubies costume shows what can happen with a brush in the wrong hands.
Keep tabs on how long it takes to even do the modification and you'll get an insight into the time these take to do well.
I just wonder what the Mattel cowl would have looked like if they hadn't used one of ours during the design of theirs!

Re: Matty Cowl Mod
I did not know they used your cowl as a model Chuck.
very flattering?
or not?
Yours are still the gold standard as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Matty Cowl Mod
Chuck, I was not aware they (Mattell) used one of your cowls when they designed theirs. If this is so, then it really puzzles me as to why the markings on the face were so off. I agree with batrunner, your cowls are absolutely beautiful, but at this time out of my price range, so my Matty cowl will have to do. It looks so much better after repainting the face. I'm glad I took the time to modify it.
Re: Matty Cowl Mod
On a side note, it took me 3 days to get the re-paint to look right (removing the old markings, trying to hide what was left, adding several coats of black, and some very light and I mean light sanding with 300 grit, then repainting the markings)

Yep, the lead designer for the '66 line at Mattel purchased one of our cowls.
Pretty much all the new products have used our work or research in their product development.
Some with permission and credit and some without.
I'm thrilled to see the new Tweeterhead Batgirl maquette rocking our colors!!!
David Fisher did a beautiful job interpreting our design board swatches.
This is in addition to the Batman and Robin figures they did with our color callouts.
On the flip side, our cowl and gloves are portrayed as the real thing on the T-shirt.
