Robin Vest - My First Sewing Project

Post by Waterratt »

I made this Robin vest for my son for Halloween and for future Comic Conventions. This was my first time sewing a serious project (though my wife helped me with the collar). I did take a sewing class with my daughter about two months ago, and made a pillowcase, but that was the extent of my sewing experience. This was also the first time I used a pattern. I am very happy with it. I used the Williams Studio 2 pattern. I stumbled a bit, but it went together pretty easily. I could not find the gold shoelaces for the center of the vest, so for now, I have not punched the grommets and just applied some felt strips. Also, we are going for more of the Damian Wayne look. so I did not make the cape yet. I plan on using the Batman cape pattern to make his cape. Thanks to Chuck and Lynne Williams for supplying such great patterns!

This turned out great, Matt! You're certainly braver than I am with a sewing machine!

After sewing my bat boots and not having a clue as to what I was doing on the thing, they turned out pretty darned good. They are my first, and only project. I am sure your project will turn out wonderful. As I discovered, that machine really is not all that hard to operate. Good luck with yours sir.

Super job!
I have sewn 3 tunics now, and once they are done it is a lil scary to do grommets because I do not want to screw it up. After a bit I suck it up and go for it .
Cant wait to see the rest.
