working on first Batman outfit :)

Post by tributetomarilyn » Sun Nov 19, 2017 7:32 pm

Hello Bat Board! I'm new here and have been reading all about the costume tips, thank you everyone! I am working on the batshorts right now and thought I'd show my progress. I reshaped the pattern for the center back line, to curve it into the crotch area for ease of use. Here's pics so far. Thoughts?

OK finished shorts! you don't see the zigzag stitching when they're actually being worn though. Looks better on. Finished cutting out the cape and working on gloves now :)

Thank you! :) Made 1 glove so far, still working on the other, will post pics later :) To match the Pantone colors suggested by Williams Studio, I went to home depot and gathered Behr paint swatches. Matched the Navy cape and trunks to Behr "Admiral Blue", and the Tights and Top to Behr "Washed Denim." Then took the paint swatches to the fabric store to find the best match!

That is exactly what we used to tell folks to do!
The paint chips at the hardware store make for a great Pantone book substitute!

Congratulations on the progress so far! You are off to a great start!

All the best,
Chuck...

Thank you, Chuck! I made a new pair of shorts already, because I realized the deepest Blue satin at Joanne's Fabrics wasn't nearly navy enough...went to another store to get darker blue. Am working on the new navy gloves presently. So I'll probably dye the old set a darker navy eventually and have 2 sets. Here's a pic of the royal blue gloves I made anyway, in the Batmobile!

It looks like one of our cars (or they used every part we offer, LOL!).

Looking good; keep on rocking on your Batsuit.

OK here's a finished glove. Thanks for everyone's past posts here on the Batboard for their tips and tricks, and for Chuck and Lynne's tutorials online :) I used an old Butterick gloves pattern and enlarged it to 110%. Fabric was heavy stretch spandex, (that's why I decided to use interfacing) and fake suede for the palms.
Thoughts?
