Batcowl scan!!
Hi All,
I thought I had posted this but in my excitement, but I may have dropped the ball!
I was able to scan an original Batcowl recently thanks to the gracious owner known as "Alfred " in the recent media .
Not any old cowl, but the famed "Pink Cowl" from the second season that went on to be repainted and featured in the Batgirl PSA and the Saturday Morning cartoon preview.
With the scanning expertise of Michael DeFeo, the scan captured amazing detail and I am busy making a display for the owner showing it's journey from hero cowl to pink cowl to the current "post show" condition.
The thing about this cowl was that when it was painted, it stopped the fabric from stretching out and off the shell so it preserved it on one hand while changing the look on the other. It still has folds and wrinkles seen on the second season episode!
Shown is the full size print painted pink just for fun, prior to molding...The blue cast is the "clean out" casting used to clean the mold prior to production.
Yep, I'm geeking out!!!

Re: Batcowl scan!!
Here it is painted in the style it was seen on screen.
Like in the first season, I've found two and possibly 3 cowls in this paint style that were VERY close in paint and finish.
The casting shows the Hot Toys shell seam in the center clearly...
The last time I've found it used as a close up hero cowl prior to the pink paint was in the Marsha episode when it was looking tired.
Fun stuff!!!

Re: Batcowl scan!!
Excuse me, Profit. Williams, I have a question aboot that seam.
Was this original shell made differently, or is this seam present on other cowls?
Did Hot Toys scan this cowl for their molds?
Thank you for sharing these pics!

Re: Batcowl scan!!
HAHAHA! This just keeps me out of trouble!!!
It's on most cowls ,some more apparent than others.
Sometimes it looks filled and sanded but there is a bump/dip from one side to the other.Even on the Purrfect Crime cowl...
What makes the plane change more apparent on some in addition to the lighter clean up of the shell is that they change the fabric grain direction of the center section of the cover. Really changes the look of the cowl.
Hot Toys modeled the movie cowl which includes this cowl based on the paint work. They simply interpreted it as a fabric seam and not a plane change.
It is barely noticeable in person but under satin fabric, a thread looks like there is a trapped squirrel under the fabric!

Chuck,
Might you offer any like that painted up for sale? I’d love one painted in the classic color!
Respectfully,
Jack

Here is the plaster plug next to the resin reference cast just prior to final clean up and molding.
Wanted to share this here first because the Batfans here know just what this means to me and what a heck of a road it's been to get to this point!
Short of finding the mold at the studio staff shop, I just don't know how it could get any closer to what it was on screen...Gotta say we got really , really close to it!!!! Most the differences are asymmetrical, weird bumps that are impossible to replicate from photos...
See you on the other side of molding!!!
All the best,
Chuck...
