WELL DONE!

The heavy weight spandex satins are what replaced the original fabric in the market place and have been used on several replica costumes.

Ask if they have a jumbo satin spandex in the same color. That should give you a bit more of the satin finish but this looks pretty darn good in the photo.

Nice color!!

I'm at the fabric searching stage myself. Do I have any chance of finding what I need at Jo Ann's?

Looks great! Is this the "rough moleskin" in navy from Spandex World?

What do you think of this for the trunks and gloves?

Some heavy spandex fabrics are more "satin" than others.
Some are more sparkly than others too.

Spandex is good but I also like stretch woven satins for gloves and trunks. It is thinner but looks and feels and more importantly photographs like regular satin.
I used a stretch woven satin fabric for my first gloves and trunks.

The ONLY way to judge the color or quality of a fabric is to get a swatch and see and photograph it next to what you are trying to match.
You can't trust monitors or sales peoples descriptions.
Photographing it is important because with the dark blues, it may look perfect by eye and go purple when photographed with flash.
This one step of "swatching" will save you tons of money in the long run.

If you have a fabric you want to match, call or email a shop you want to use and ask if you send a swatch of your fabric, will they match it to what they have in stock . They will send anywhere from 1-5 swatches of what fabrics they have that comes closest to the color.

The other thing to know is that dyelots are not consistant.
You got your cowl fabric at shop "X" last year and you go back and order the exact same thing only to find the color is way off. If you find something that works, buy all that you think you'll need for your entire suit.

It's from http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.asp ... d8f32f4002 .
These are some I'm looking at. You should order some swatches of fabric and see if you like them. Everyone has there own likes. I have ordered a few more to just make sure.

This part of the costume building process had me most intimidated, so I have to thank Huntman for sharing the links and ideas! I am having fun just ordering swatches and anxiously awaiting for them to arrive so I can match them to my cowl.

Hi!

I bought the Williams Studio 2 pattern and it's really helpful, but what is lastex?
Is the strecth satin all right for gloves and trunks?
What is better for the glove palm: leatherette or suede?

Lastex was the trade name for the stretch satin fabric used for the cowl, gloves and trunks. It's no longer made.

Adam preferred suede for the gloves but the thin leather Gaspar uses is really nice and "grabby".
If you are making your own, lambskin smooth leather or suede would work...

Hi Chuck!

Thanks for helping but which fabric will be helpful for the trunks? I found gloves replica on Ebay and I think it’s the right fabric. Where I can find Leotard and tights with the right Colors?
