Bat Ear Plugs Prop

Post by rsaffle »

Episode 1x20: Better Luck Next Time

My take on Batman's Bat-Ear Plugs. Designed then 3D Printed and painted. My guess is you would have to use double stick tape to actually attach them or by adding magnets in some fashion to archive it. This prop is from one of my favorite episodes and contained several props that I hope to recreate.

When we last left our heroes, Catwoman had lured them into the warehouse of the Gato & Chat Fur Company, where they were faced with not one deathtrap, but an entire series of them, each deadlier than the last. It all culminated in Batman being confronted with two doors and given a literal choice between the lady and the tiger, and choosing wrong. All of which is to say that this is an episode of television that opens with Batman fighting a tiger, which is without question the best possible way for anything to open, ever. To deal with the situation, Batman produces a pair of "tiger claws" of his own so that he can scale the wall. "Calling on his fantastic storehouse of audio engineering knowledge," Batman then pulls out a pair of Bat Ear Plugs - applied over his cowl. With earplugs firmly in place, Batman "reverses the polarity on his communicator" in order to create an ear-piercing sound that would drive the tiger back into its cell.

I've always been a fan but admit I haven't seen these episodes for a long time. I watched this one this week and I love all the different traps and gizmos they used. Catwoman had a neat attitude and nonchalant way of trying to kill that was perfect to me. That bat sticker to keep him from getting lost was greatness. Always appreciate your comments Ben!

Beautiful as always Randy, I'm guessing the Batclaws can't be far behind ;)

They are neat. I'm sure I will do them but they have been done before here and they looked great so it takes some of the excitement out of it.

Found a new image that shows a side view that does nothing but confuse me to the details.

What a subtle... change... in position of the Bat Earplugs would have done to a scene like that. :)

Wow! You are a one-man company of '66 props no one ever thought would see production on any scale! Excellent work!

On a side note, the earplugs just remind me of how inconsistent the bat designs for the show were in that I'm doubting any one design was ever used for another object, other than Batman's chest emblem, which was on the sidecar of the 1st Batcycle, on the Batcopter, and a slightly altered version on the tail of the Batboat, I believe.
