Batman for Hallmark Kiddie Batmobile

Post by Lou Szabo »

Hallmark has done some Kiddie cars over the years in ornament scale, and a larger scale. They made the Batmobile in the larger scale, and made 2 versions of the ornament scale, black and chrome.

I’ve wanted a small boy to fit into that larger scale vehicle, and have looked at various figures (Barbie’s nephew) and a couple of years ago these figures were launched with a TV -toy tie-in.

I picked this up at 5 below for $5. And he pops out of the car seat easily. But Cat-Dude has a tale, which was ejected immediately.

The next question is will he fit? Yes and no. Scale is right, but he’s got feet like my son-in-law, really big. Also model paints come right off the surface, so I bought some acrylic paints at Hobby Lobby

The next step is how much work do I want to put into it. For instance, I could sand the head and body, and Cat dude needed to get his foot size reduced.

I mixed up a gray and light lavender paint to get close to the body suit color. I did use a dark blue that when applied looked royal blue, but dried a darker blue. I printed a mini chest logo and utility belt. I did paint the face area black. I kept the original big eyes and light blue eyebrows as it went with the kid look.

The fit is not perfect and I need a cape, but for now, it’s reached a stopping point until I mull over whether I want to bend the legs, trim or cut off the feet.

Also, bought some bases for the Batman busts and two figure that need to stand on their own two feet

These will have a Robin and Batman chest emblems, and for the cartooned version, a classic Bat logo.

Very creative! A figure like that should have come with the larger kiddie car right from the beginning! Nice job

Painted the Bases - still working on that R. Should have gone Yellow base, then Black over it, rather than Black with yellow. More coats will solve it.

I could not find my 1989/1990 Iron Winch Batman so I could steal the cape, so I ordered another and should be here Monday.
I’ll post a picture or two when I install the cape.
Package - how many of you bought this one

I’m thinking of bending the knees to have the little guy sit better. I did buy a second Catcar at 5 below to use the Dremel tool to eliminate ridges all over the body. Now that I know the paint works, it should be a cleaner design.

You could have used sticky shelf paper as a stencil and cut out the logos. I could send you black vinyl logos if you still wanted a redo.

Love the figures and head!
Any idea where I could get the figures at?

Randy,
These figures are on eBay every once in a while. Mine are from 2006 or so. They were part of a custom 1/12 scale Batmobile set.

Were they Scooter's figures? He might still have them available via www.pimpmybatmobile.com

I don’t believe so, but these were older than Scooter’s website. I have seen these unpainted, but also mounted to a base.

On another note, the Batman figure arrived. The cape is long, but the idea with the neck ring is right on
