Nice artice--thank you for posting it. It is great to see the BB respected--restored to its original state, rather than the pinstriped, logo-plastered, "its gotta be another Batmobile!" version Barris trotted out in the 1970s.

First.. HEY BATWINGED HORNET!! You don't answer your PMs or what?

I saw "a" Black Beauty in 1977 at the Antique Automobile Museum in Highland Park, IL. George Barris was there and was claiming HE built it. Not sure which one it was. It was right down the hall from the Infamous fuzzy Batmobile. In George's usual way, he had stickers all over it like it was the Batmobile. So wrong.....

Oddly enough it is the car I own. George did not build it of course but I suppose he thought since he painted all that stupid striping and door "hornet" on it therefore he felt he "built" it. All of Georges influence has been removed for the car and returned to how it looked when Dean Jeffries gave it to the studio.

AWESOME!! So, I can honestly say, I've sat in the backseat of YOUR car! All they had were ropes around the car and the door was open, so being 14, I jumped in the backseat! Wish I still had the photos from those days. That museum also had the Banacek car as well. I remember the gift shop had hundreds of the 1976 version Corgi Batmobiles at $5 each. No BB's though.

I am so glad you restored the car. Even at 14 I can remember saying to myself that all the signs on this were not right!
