Perhaps a nod to Britt Reids great uncle, The Lone Ranger. His one horsepower rolling (or galloping) arsenal was named Silver. Black Beauty (a novel about a horse) was written in 1877 by Anna Sewell. The radio serial mentioned only a black sedan, the movie serials mentioned the Black Beauty. Since Batman had the Batmobile they had to name it something. Plus it sounds cool!

I read that it was two reasons.
One a nod to the Lone Ranger by Trendle and Striker.
The other was that in the original first radio episode it was mentioned that the Black Beauty was built in an abandoned stable near Britt Reid's home.

Black of green, the name just fits, and gives it a degree of class for so-called "criminals."A. Pennyworth wrote:Perhaps a nod to Britt Reids great uncle, The Lone Ranger. I agree with Scott. It sure looks black to me, not green.
