Happy Hornet Anniversary!

Post by Todd Grimes »

Hi all! Happy 55th anniversary of the first airing of The Green Hornet TV series. I thought I'd post a few images of some of my collection pieces. One of my hobbies is creating custom action figures, and of course one of my favorite characters is The Green Hornet. I have most often worked in 1:6 scale to make 12 inch figures, but this past year or so I started trying my hand at the 8 inch style figures (the Mego scale). I found the materials can be a little easier to come by - and cheaper! The smaller heads are a bit harder to paint though! The heads, gas gun and shoes are hand-painted 3D prints while the rest of the material is all stuff I found online. Here are some of my GH Mego-scale figures:

And here are some custom packaging I've created to display the figures. They are placed in bubble cases from the Figures Toy Company - which are nice because you can open and re-seal them anytime.

Those look too good to be Megos. LOL

Seriously awesome stuff Todd. Your level of craftsmanship is always top notch and not one piece of it feels out of place. I so want MEGO to contact you and use these as samples. Thanks for sharing and for pointing out the anniversary.

I would probably pass on the Frank Scanlon figure but I can't wait to see your Mego Black Beauty. That would be a challenge! :D

After I wrote that I went looking and found out Mego made a Starsky and Hutch car that I never knew existed. As far as I know it was the only mego car with a roof but proves it could work. I notice it says "with twist out action"‽

You can 3d print anything but another idea would be sculpting it and vacuum forming the body. Actually sounds kinda fun. Maybe I could give it a go.

Absolutely fantastic work, Todd! Your figures are far closer to the TV characters than some of the commercially available figures based on Batman '66.

About the anniversary, yes, I thought about the series and how that kind of adaptation really paved the way toward serious adaptations of costumed characters. Short, but a sharp TV series.
