Waltons - Batman connection?

Post by Bill S.C. »

Howdy Batfolks,

While watching the Waltons pilot, "The Homecoming - A Christmas Story" on youtube, something caught my eye

At the 1:13:34 mark, there is a picture of The Judge - Father of the Baldwin sisters. The painting caught my eye because it looked like the same portrait that hung in Commission Gordon's office. So, I pulled up some old episodes of Batman on youtube as well.

In the final scene of The Penguin's Nest / The Bird's Last Jest at the 42:16 mark you can see a fairly good shot of the portrait and it does appear to be the same one.

Take a look and see if these are the same portraits.

The funny thing is that IIRC, The Waltons was filmed at Warner Brothers and Batman at 20th Century.

Isn't there another connection?

Didn't on of the Waltons appear in the Joker's Flying Saucer episode as Mrs. Greenleaf - a villain yet!

I like reminding my sister of this - she loves the Waltons

Ellen Corby ('Esther Walton') played the Joker's accomplice 'Mrs. Green.'

Also, John Crawford was Bookworm's 'Printer's Devil,' and was a recurring player on THE WALTONS as 'Sheriff Bridges.'

Bill, you have always had a knack for picking out stuff like this, much to my own enjoyment! It's funny you should notice that painting, as I myself have noticed it in an early episode of, of all shows, Starsky & Hutch, hanging in the police station!
I find you to be odious, abhorrent and insegrevious.

Here's a screen from the Movie that shows it off too.

Nice shot. Thanks, Lee.
I wonder if the Baldwin sisters were related to Commissioner Gordon.

I found the S&H occurrence of the painting. It is in the pilot episode for the series, which co-starred a different actor as Captain Dobey. Here is that actor in an early scene in his office.

Excellent Lee; great catch. Boy, that painting sure got around; I wonder where it is today?

Let me tell you, Bill, whenever I am watch an old movie or TV series, I look for props from Batman that may have been reused. Like the Joker bust, or Shakespeare bust for that matter. Always hopeful.
