Doc Savage Fan Club Code Card

Post by rsaffle »

I found this great fan membership card from the 1930's for a Doc Savage fan club. I love what it says so I printed one up and signed it with my youthful signature style. :D

I created an in-scale PDF if anyone wants to join the club but make sure if you do sign it that you "Pledge to abide by the code of Doc Savage!"

BTW, this card came with a tiny 3/4" brass pin that I'm in love with now but it is very rare and the only one on Ebay is listed for $200. Funny how I can go from not knowing it existed to I need one in no time. I'll probably try and make a similar one.

I used to have all of the old Smith and Smith small hardback Doc Savage and The Shadow books. A bit bigger than the Big Little Books. Found them in an old bookshop back when I was in my teens. Was a fan even then.

I have no doubt that you can re-create an exact one, Randy!

Doc Savage and The Shadow had some great premiums.
Love both series.

The original pin is only 3/4" tall and way too tiny for reproduction, but I took a shot and got the feeling of it and 3D printed it 4" x 4" and turned it into a magnet. It was fun to do. I love the vintage feel of it, and it looks cool next to my Code card repo. I'm thinking about doing a red face version like the card shows.

Like Andy said, Doc Savage and The Shadow had some cool premiums. I had too much fun with this one to stop now.

graphitti Designs had one for the 60th anniversary of Doc back in the day (1993). I had that one.
My Doc Savage story is a huge circle, starting with Marvel Comics Brand of the Werewolf Doc Savage (which I grabbed due to the Werewolf on the cover). I then slowly grabbed up all the paperbacks over a 15 year period, and had just one to go. I ran into Tony Isabella at a local comic book show, and told him my adventure. He pulled out a copy of that issue (he was selling back issues), and opened it to the title page and pointed at the writer, who was none other than Tony. Anyway, he had one book to pickup, so on my next business trip I was able to secure his my issue and his last issue, which I presented to him at the next comic book show. Both our quests were completed.
