Help needed on buckle...

Post by Grayvette03 »

Okay, I have my brass and was wondering how everyone attached their hardware to the brass, did you use any special type of hardware and finally how did you get the belt to curve correctly? I researched several threads but didn't see too many directions or pictures of the back side of the buckle.

Here is a link to a post I did on my buckle. Also a pic of the back. As far as bending I just did it by hand very slowly. You want a slight curve not a fold.

I have used blocks of wood in the past to pound the curve into the buckle but now I use a roller.

The attachments were hand made and silver soldered on.

This was my first attempt at engraving. I bought 3 pieces of brass hoping to get one good one out of the three. I learned a lot on the engraving process. I'm going to change my template up a bit more, I liked the idea of a fine tip marker to help keep the lines straight. The "frame" on the buckle was my biggest issue keeping it straight and even but I have an idea on how to fix it. It took me several hours and a stationary magnifying glass to help ( the eyes aren't as good as they use to be). Will make my new template in the next few day and try again. This is a very addicting process and so much fun.
I thing I have the bend part figured out with help from above,,,Batdave and Chuck. I like the ideas of gorilla glue being used instead of silver slider and flux. I may try both a see which works better,
Thanks for the help and advice. Keep the info coming!
