They not only don't charge you until it ships, they automatically lower your purchase price if it drops during the pre-order, which its likely to do.
I don't understand the disdain some folks have for Amazon-- I use them all the time, and they are great. The few times I've had to return something it's stress free and nearly instant. They've even told me in the past I don't have to send an item back that I wanted to return. Guess that comes from ordering from them about 70x a year! Super fast two day shipping too. I love 'em! The ONLY bad experiences I've had was with third party sellers. I hesitate to order from them. Shipping can be ludicrously slow.

Amazon works fine for me, and in the case of the rare return / refund, it is faster than any service of the same kind.

Amazon is groovy, but I'm waiting to pre until the official announcement hits. Might be some special exclusives happening at various retailers, so I wanna make sure I make an "informed purchase". ;)

Is it necessary to have both dvd and blu-ray versions? What differences could there be?

Yeah I hear that the Blu-Ray has much, Much more clear of a picture then then the DVD. And I think Blu-Ray has more extras on it then just dvd. Thats what I been told about the two!! :)

I just realized that the set comes out on Veterans Day, November 11th, so there is no mail delivery that day because it is a holiday. I think I'm going to change to 2 day shipping because it will come by UPS which will deliver on Veterans Day.

Which is why I was originally told the 18th was the release date. I'm not likely to watch the set for a few days anyway so it makes no difference to me, but good catch for those of you planning on watching it right away.

The only reason I'm hung up on that is because I have every other Wednesday off from work and I am scheduled to have Wednesday, November 12th off. The kids will be at school and my wife will be working and I can be at home enjoying Batman "In Color" on Blu-ray. That's the plan anyway.

I recommend going with the pre-order option. The first blu-rays I ever bought were the James Bond 50th anniversary set. At the time I place my order, the set was something like $204, but thanks to the pre-order price guarantee, I wound up getting it for $150.

I agree, but only after the annoucements of features. There may be a reason to buy BOTH the Blu Ray and DVD sets if they have different features (SHIVER!)

As of this morning, it was $188.98--down from the $269.97 list price on amazon. That may be subject to change, but that is a significant discount.

Its getting pretty crazy over on Amazon, so many people posting reviews already. I just don't understand doing that before a product is released.

I think many over there are forgetting that the series has never been released anywhere in the world and the Warner wants to make as much off this set for as long as they can. It also seems that many people on Amazon believe the show should be cheaper and that 'being a fan for 40-odd years' gives them the right for it to be as cheap as more common dvds. Really entertaining reads over on Amazon.

I have the Blu set pre-ordered, but will also get the DVD set for collector reasons eventually. I may even just get the BLu in-store instead depending on if there is exclusive content to a certain store. Usually bugs me when stores do that, but for Batman 66 I will make an exception.

I understand if some cannot afford the DVD, but some of the Amazon comments are petty. They complain as though being a fan gives them a position of entitlement. No fan is promised anything. It is enough that the TV series is finally on home video. Moreover, I believe some are feeling a "fan community" pressure (that does not exist) to be one of the first to buy the DVD, when they can simply save for as long as it takes to purchase the set. Considering the effort required to even release the series, i'm guessing there will be more than enough units produced to satisfy the same day as well as the saving buyers.
