The Contaminated Cowl's cowl

Post by A. Pennyworth »

Perhaps discussed before or others might have been wondering but I was looking at the details of the pink contaminated cowl and noticed the linear exaggerated divot/crease in the top upper left (top right on screen) corner of the cowl where the black face meets the blue satin. Looking at the series at which cowl might have been painted to produce it, I noticed the cowl worn in "Fine Finny Fiends" which shows a similar crease in the same area. Could this have been the one repainted?

That's an excellent observation. But if you compare where the seam at the left side of the face meets the bottom of the shell, it looks like it falls at a very different place. The bottom of the seam on the pink cowl looks like it hits the corner of the angle down the sideburn, while the seam on the blue cowl falls well in front of the corner. Hard to explain in writing - easier to see on photos.

Not conclusive at this resolution, of course. You could totally be right. The shadow of the painted-over eyebrow looks right, too. But it doesn't look like the seams match up to me. Just my two cents.

Here's my guess...

The seam tucks in the corner near the sideburn, the ear shapes and the right ear lower, the slack on the right side, the way it tucks at the bottom of the right sideburn and the clincher for me is the notch at the top of the right eye cutout.

I think if you check out the Archer episode or there abouts, you'll see this cowl developing the wrinkle above the black paint...

There you go. Lots of compelling evidence from the most knowledgable source around here!

The little ding in the left eye (right side of the photo), and the tuck in the left sideburn clinch it for me.

Excellent sleuthing AP and CW!

It's really fascinating to see the history in these costumes and the investigative work so many have done to learn more. It's almost like archeology! I'll bet the folks making those cowls never imagined that nearly 50 years later fans would still have such in-depth eyes on the details!

The little divot over the left eye does it for me.

Did anyone notice how much Adam's face shown through the pink cowl as pink as way closer to actual Caucasian skin tone? With no dark color contrasts to distract the eye wearing the mask is pretty much a moot point! Lighten it a bit more and he becomes a bald Bruce Wayne with devil horns!

Yep, I just live near a nuclear power plant and go swimming in the lake near it.

The cost of the lead storage boxes are a pain though!

Just a follow-up, where is that cowl now? Also, could it have developed the crease due to an accidental smack during one of the fight sequences?

No clue where it is.

My guess is that it was recovered and reused.
