Odd expression in The Pharaoh's in a Rut

Post by Jim K, Bat fan »

I just finished watching "The Pharaoh's in a Rut" and at the end, in describing King Tut, Commissioner Gordon says he is "A tragic case, one of the saddest which has ever crossed my ken."

I tried looking this expression up, but can't find any references to it. Has anyone every heard or used "crossed my ken"?

Yes, in one of my English classes in Japan :) . 'Ken' in English means the span of an individual's knowledge/experience and 'crossed my ken' basically means 'I've ever seen' or 'that has come to my attention'.
He flies and fights-BATMAN!
Purity and virtue-BATMAN!
Cowards run away!
Batman saves the day!
Also, Boy Wonder Robin.
Batman and Robin-caped crusaders at night!
BIFF! POW! BAM! BATMAN!

Yep: Japanese: "One's range of knowledge or sight." Google is wonderful. ;)

One of my favourite movies, the Sound of Music (should I admit that?), uses something similar in the song 16 Going on 17.

As used in that well known Japanese song "D'ye Ken John Peel"

It's amazing. I watched this last night too and couldn't figure out what the Commish was saying. Amazing we're on the same wavelengths.
