Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
Thanks BatFanMan, I like the picture! I ran into a site that I'd like Yours and Sprangfan's (and anyone else's) opinion: On the site entitled "Infographic: The Evolution of the Bat Symbol" (Google that, it will show up on numerous places). It shows Bats chest insignia from the beginning up to the most recent movie and includes Lewis Wilson's insignia. While it doesn't cover every variation, it covers most of the major ones. Which one do You all think matches closest the Bat Sprang's design. I'm currently partial to the 1943 Lewis Wilson movie insignia as well as the 1944 and 1960's style. The other thing that differs since from A.W.'s suit is that Sprang shows taller boots, similar to early 1st season A.W. so I'll be going w/ Sprang's boot design.
Please let me know Your opinions as to which insignia might look the best.
Thanks,

Here's the 2 serial bats. Which 1960s version are you referring to?

The 1943 version, but as I mentioned, Ol' Chum, The 1960 version is on Infographic: The Evolution of the Bat Symbol. Type that in on Google and You';; find which exact site it is on.
Hope that helps,
Thanks for the attachment of the serial Bats, though. I do appreciate it!

Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
So many versions of that chart come up when I search and the type is too small to read but here is one of my favorites:

Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
Yep, BFM, I'm thinking that a slightly wider, larger, version of the 1960 version might be what I want. What say You all?

Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
On seeing The 1967 Batman movie for the 1st time on digital T.V., I noticed that with the exception of the nose being outlined in very light blue, and the shape of the eyebrows, A.W.'s cowl IS almost identical to Dick Sprang's rendition! I think, though, that when I make my cowl, I will leave off the nose outline and slightly lighten the nose area a bit more in order to match the comic cowl. Comments, please?
thanks,
thanks,
Larry
Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
Weeeeellllll, it's gonna be November before I get the Bat suit done: A 350 lb Antique Apple/Fruit Press I bought to make Juices and wines, slipped off of my cart at home, slipped off and landed on my smallest right toe!!!!!! I'm gonna be in an "ugly shoe" for about 6 weeks. Hurts like the Dickens! Remember, Fellow Citizens, Life is what happens when You are making plans, sometimes it smacks You in the face!
Cheers,

DC Direct Utility Belt:

These have begun to climb in value, but they may be an alternative to making your own, or at least modelling for the 1950's Batman.

Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
Perhaps the Mattel cowl will work for your application - you may change the angle of the eyebrows, and you have a low cost version.
Are you going with Black shorts?

Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
The DC belt is nice, but Sprang drew the capsules smaller:

"You were right again, Batman. We might have been killed."
"Or worse."
"Or worse."
Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
Hi Szabol, Hi Sprangfan,
,
Thank You both for Your input. I REALLY appreciate the help. I would love the DC direct and the Matty Cowl, but with Jaqui's medical bills, I can't afford major purchases at this time. $50.00 once a month is about it for now, so I will have to make things myself.
Since I am doing a "Sprang" design, I need to keep the belt to the shorter belt tubes.
As far as the color of the overall outfit, I went back to my notes from my interview of years back with Dick, and He told me that the light blue on the suit was, as He remembered, due to the inability of the inks and techniques of the time to show shadows within the black color. He suggested ( as one can see I had the idea for this suit back in the early 80') that I do as they did for the 1966 show. Sadly, there are no color change silks that go from VERY dark Blue to light blue. Otherwise I'd use that. Of course, if any of You good citizens know of any at a reasonable price..........
I cannot emphasize just how much I appreciate Your inputs!!!!!
Before I kick off this mortal coil, I want for a little bit to be able to be my childhood hero on occasion!!!!
Thanks again and Cheers,

Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
Greetings to all,
Due to a short term financial problem , I am looking at a slight change of plans: I am going to build the cowl shell out of 1/2" thick closed-cell foam. Not only will it be A LOT cheaper, but I can control the fitting of the cowl myself. The more that I've examined this idea that Jaqui gave me, the more I like it
. This will allow for the cowl to keep it's shape, but quite possibly to allow me to pull the cowl back and lay over the back of the cape. The other positive to making the cowl my self as opposed to buying a Matty cowl is that I won't feel guilty changing the ears around to match D.S.'s cowl.
Another great idea that my Sweetie came up with for me while I was wrestling with how to make the eyes of the mask so it would look like the comic eyes: Use white Gossamer fabric! It sure beats how they did Spiderman's mask' eye in the old live action T.V. show of the 80's; they used metal eye patch covers that had thousands of little hole in it. As I get the material (1st of next month), Ill share the results with all who are interested. If any of my fellow Bat-Fans have any other suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks

Re: Dick Sprang's Bat Suit
Hi folks,
The results of the eye cover experiments turned out positive!!!!! The "Gossamer" covering the eyeholes actually truned out better than the fine lace. The effect of having the clear plastic over the Gossamer looks rather nice, but I confess that I can't see as well because of the Gloss effect. It's rather like looking out of a very old window whose glass has started sag and wrinkle. So for now, I think that the "Gossamer" alone will work best. The cowl also looks a goodly deal more business-like w/o the gloss covering the eyes.
