Bat Tights

Post by dreddbatfan »

I saw on a previous post that you can get the tights from on stage dance wear and that members have been dying them to match the original color.I went to on stage dance wears website and they have a gray in the supplex and I'd like to know if this is the right color gray or should I still dye the tights? If I have to dye them, what color rit dye do I buy to get the right shade of gray? Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Others have said that the gray that they offer is not the correct shade. I got white and dyed them with 2 boxes of Pearl Gray & 3/8 teaspoon of aubergine. Others use purple if aubergine can't be found. Follow instructions on the box.

In case this happens to you, I will add that, in my case, I had to continually tweak the shade on the bottoms as they did not emerge the same shade as the top from the first round of dyeing (both tunic & tights together.) The bottoms came out lighter than the top and I surmised that this was because the top and bottom were not created from the same lot of fabric. So I just had to re-dye them 3 or 4 times, each time adding just a little more at a time of the shade I felt was missing until they matched. So be patient in the process and don't use too much dye if you have to go through this. It's always easier to add a little at a time than to over do it.

Good luck!

Thanks Batfanman for the help.I'm going to have to have my Bat Tights custom made because I'm in a wheelchair from Rhuematoid Arthritis and my arms and legs are short like kids(I'm only 4'5")but my chest is an adult size from all the medications that they gave me when I was younger(I turned 57 in September).I hope the tights won't be too expensive because I'm on a fixed income from social security. After I get bot parts,I'll probably pay someone on the message board to dye them for me so that I know they'll turn out right. If anyone can help me out when the time comes let me know.

I'd be happy to help you out with dyeing them if you like. PM me when you're ready.

As for the expense on the tunic & tights themselves from OnStage, I've been reading here lately that OS has been requiring a 3 per-order minimum (3 of same item, it appears.) That obviously has pushed up costs for folks but you can always call them and verify if this is still policy. If it is true, your best bet would be to see if there are others on the board looking to purchase some and perhaps arrange to to go in it together. Complicated situation for sure but may be best option. Don't forget to consider and then check out the other features (zippers, snaps, foot stirrups) that OS can add to tunic and tights as pertaining to your needs.

Hi Folks, If OS doesn't work out, how about ordering from Capezio? I haven't had the need to look for them in years, but perhaps DreddBatFan could try them. Comments, anyone?

As you can see from the attached pictures,I'm going to have to have my tights custom made to fit me because of my disability.Because of the medicine I was given when I was younger it stunted my growth in my arms & legs(plus not being able to walk). Not only am I disabled but on a fixed income from social security so my moneys tight but I'll make it right somehow.I know I can't afford Williams Brothers tights but hopefully On Stage Dancewear will help me out with the alterations.I can't wait to get them as I'll be getting my costume piece by piece as the money comes in and available. Thanks for everyones help and there's more to come......

Hi Dredd BatFan. I can appreciate where You are coming from as I am on disability myself. I'm taking it one step at a time myself due to finances. We'll all make it eventually. Keep the Faith Brother!

Cheers,

You, Jonsey, are also a hero in my eyes. If I had a pair of tights, I'd donate them as well.

Thanks Batjonsey36 and Larry A,I really appreciate it-pms sent to you both.I used to watch the classic tv series when I was in the hospital a lot growing up and that's what kept me going through all the poking and proding and physical therapy,it helped me deal with all the pain.I'm now 56 and I still remember the classic series as well as the classic Green Hornet series. My costume may take awhile to get all the pieces but it still brings back good memories of when I was young. Thanks again to you both and everyone on the message board,I look forward everyday to see if anyone has posted a reply,it brightens my day a little and I'll post a picture when I get the tights and after they've been altered.

I second that.

BTW, DreddBatFan, There is a favorite quote from one of the funniest, enjoyable Science-Fiction Pastiche/ satire I have EVER seen; "Never Give Up!; NEVER Surrender!!!!" Tim allens characters in "Galaxy Quest". Hopefully that will be mantra for You as it is for me.

And as always,

Cheers!

With the new cowl I just purchased as well from Williams Studio, I am throwing in my old cowl. I hope when you get these items they fit!!!!

I truly hope that these items bring you joy and help you on your quest to complete your costume!
