A Tale of Three Cowls

Post by Joel Ross »

It truly is amazing the difference a well fitting cowl makes. I have to admit, my first cowl was way too big for my noggin. Cowl number two was a much better fit and cowl number three was perfect. Can you guess the makers?

#3's Chuck's, no doubt about it, #2, Matty's. #1, I dunno.

This is a great learning experience for me. Would some one fill me in on who Will Reeb is, or was, please? It is because of interesting questions like this, that I joined this board. One other question, Joel, if I may: In what ways do the cowls by Chuck and others differ from Will's?
Thanks and Cheers!

Will Reeb or "Silvernight58" as he was originally known on our message board started producing his cowls around 2007(?). My first cowl back in 2008 was in fact one of Will's. Over the time Will refined his shell's, pattern's and paint jobs as you will note between the first and second photos that Joel posted in this thread. The more recent cowls he produced utilized a variation on Chuck and Lynne's pattern for the covering with their blessing to fit the most recent version of the fiberglass shell that he had developed.

I've not personally touched base with Will for a while unfortunately, but I have noticed that his website is presenting a 404 error.

Will lives in Calgary and is quite the model maker and Elvis impersonator too. We are lucky to have many former and current members as artists in a range of fields. Will made a Batman Brass buckle that looks like the Utility Belt buckle but scaled down to fit a normal belt, and is still one of my favorites. You can find him on Facebook

Hi Szabol,
I'll look him up and see about getting small sized Belt Buckle. Thanks for the tip.

Hey Larry,
I haven't been on the board for the past several days so I'm glad to see Ben had fielded the question. Will really hit his stride with the second version. I think right now the only game in town is Chuck. He has truly mastered the art of cowl making. His cowl was an exact reproduction of the one Adam wore. The fabric and shape of the shell were two big differences from Will's. I don't want to take anything away from Will's cowl though. You can either drive a Cadillac or a Mercedes. Both great cars. Thanks for the compliment batjonesy36. It was fun wearing the bat suit.

I actually contacted Will the other day. He said he still makes cowls on a limited basis. Although as Joel stated, the Chuck cowl looks to be the crown jewel right now. The Will cowl is a very close second. I need a cowl update..ha ha. Joel, the suit looks fantastic! I had a blast wearing mine for the first time this past Halloween.
