1966 Kellogg's Pop-Tarts Comics

Post by BatMite »

There were six different Batman comics inserted into Kellogg's Pop-Tarts in 1966:
  • The Man In The Iron Mask
    The Penguin's Fowl Play
    The Joker's Happy Victims
    Catwoman's Catnapping Caper
    The Mad Hatter's Hat Crimes
The Case Of The Batman II
My question: Were these stories written exclusively for this Pop-Tarts set, or were they reprinted from earlier stories that appeared in Batman comics, like the Prell Shampoo Jokers comic was?

Any info will be appreciated. Thank you.

According to the Table of contents in The Greatest Joker Stories Ever Told - Trade paperback:

"The Joker's Happy Victim. Originally presented in Batman Kellogg's special. 1966"

I do remember at the time of launch of TGJSET that this story being reprinted was a big deal because it hadn't been available anywhere else since 1966.

So I presume these were all original material first featured in Kellogg's specials.

The Jokers happy Victims was from a Script in the 1940s from BATMAN #52 art by Bob Kane.
I'm not aware of the other pop tart comics although DC was notorious for re using scripts not only from the
same comics but re-adapting them from others.
The art on the pop tarts comics was from: Carmine Infantino, Al Plastino, Wayne Boring and Curt Swan.
Hope this Helps.

Thanks, Dave and Steve. It appears as if the Joker story was based on an earlier comic book tale, but the other five are originals. I'm surprised that six Batman stories that otherwise haven't been reprinted anywhere aren't better known. They're all fairly entertaining and among my favorite collectibles.
