Yep - that's the shot I was referring to...
I have to wonder if it is actually a shot from the real set housing the batpoles or some kind of temporary setup created just for the episode..?

In first-run, my brother and I assumed they had the whole commercial break to get changed, but then there were a few episodes where we see them slide down the poles in mid episode, and then the button to omit the costume change... just boggled our little minds.

As someone who has made and worn a replica of the TV Robin costume, I can tell you that total nudity is required to use the bathroom. I didn't realise until I arrived at the event that there was no quick escape for neither #1 nor #2.WayneGrayson wrote:I bet Burt Ward wishes he could have changed so quickly. His costume was pretty complex. It must have taken at least an hour.

If you look closely at the picture however the Joker is facing the wall and was likely lifted so fast that he never got a chance to turn around and see the Batcave.

My understanding from watching that episode over the years is that it cuts very cleverly between the Study Batpoles set and the Batcave Batpoles set which were in fact on two totally separate sound stages at Desliu/Culver.Aussie Batfan wrote:Yep - that's the shot I was referring to...

The poles we see in the Study (Stage 15) had a much shorter drop than the Batcave poles which were accessed from a walkway nearing the rafters of the Stage 16. Looking at the screen capture, it would appear when the camera points down that we see are seeing a far greater than ten feet drop. Also supporting this theory is that we can see the "Compressed Steam Lift" buttons on the right hand-side of the shaft.

I always wondered what the drop was in-story. In Flop goes the Joker, Alfrd remarks that Joker didn't quite make it to the Batcave. Given the amount of time it took for Joker to get as far as he did before Alfred hit the switch and how long it took him to come back up, I wonder if the drop isn't a couple of hundred feet (again, in-story)

I'm guessing it was just shy of the length of a 1966 commercial break.

Makes me interested to see Batman 66 meets Wonder Woman 77 As if I wasn't already) Bruce and Diana go to the Batpoles upon hearing Robin's in danger. Diana has Bruce negate Dick's Robin change device On the way down Diana spins on the Bat-pole...(snicker!) and when they arrive she's dressed as Wonder Woman. unfortunately the change is accompanied by a sonic boom and the Batcave roof falls in on everything bringing Wayne Manor down on it as well Aunt Harriet arrives home just in time to see the house fall into the ground and faints as always.
