First off i just want to say it's great to be on this forum with all the Bat lovers out there. As everyone knows Halloween has just passed where everyone goes out trick or treating and having a great time. This bit is going to hurt, I made my own 2016 Batman costume well i should say attempted. When i got to the Halloween party i must admit i was the worst dressed there, everyone's costumes where awesome and fitted well, mine was a little baggy and not quite the rite colour's. So next year i plan on going in with a bang but i am going to need your guys help to do it. What material should i use for the wrist bands and what colour should i paint them? chain male? sharp grey? And also what is the best way to pad out a costume without it all coming loose and with out people being able to see the sewing on the outside. I know i am asking a lot but it would be greatly appreciated if i could be the best dressed next year!!!
I have made my own costumes, and had my mother helping with others (see my profile pic). We needed three "Fantastic Four" costumes once, and had them tailor-made at a ballet costume shop for a very reasonable price.
A tailor shop isn't such a bad idea due to the terrible work that i did myself but saying that getting my mother involved is also a great idea having a little family time in the process..
"Fantastic Four" costumes made to order at a ballet store. The Thing's head was made by me, from papier-maché over a balloon, and the black cloak was already owned by the guy wearing it.
I provided elements for each of these costumes, a combination of commercially available pieces and handmade items. My mother did the sewing for my Robin costume. I made the bits 'n' pieces for all, such as Batman, Robin, Batgirl and Supergirl insignias, Lois's ID tag, belt pieces, points on the back of my boots, etc. Batgirl sewed her own costume. All the gloves were commercially available at a specialist glove shop. My tights off-the-rack in a ballet store. Supergirl's boots were once handmade Wonder Woman boots from the TV show, with the white strip covered by red Contact adhesive.
I love the fact that she has the actual Wonder Women boots on!! Awesome!! For the cuffs i have been doing some research on plastic piping and melting/molding it into the shape/size of my arm, which sounds like fun. I pretty good when it comes to stuff like that but sewing etc i am terrible. i have already spoken to my mum and she is over the moon to help which is a bonus!!
Just looking online i have found some awesome costumes that i could buy and adapt to make it like my own. This may be something i have to take into consideration to make life easier check some of the bat costumes out in th link below and tell me which one you like/i should get!!
