Drew Struzan poster.....
I didn’t want to continue to hi jack the other poster, but these thought factory posters have been a life long and expensive passion of mine
Here is the original Superman pose before someone repainted the head for the final release
Like I said I’m missing a few , Thor, Capt Marvel, and Capt. America
But have the rest , I’m pretty certain the same artist did Wonder Woman and Thor, but unsure of who it was

Wow, thanks for that. It's weird to see a different head on Supes, but I like it. There's something very "Golden Age" or Fleisher-esque about it.
Do we know that someone else did the final head or did they give Struzan a chance to do it himself?
Thor doesn't quite measure up but Cap is fun, and Diana's cute.

Re: Drew Struzan poster.....
From what I’ve read he was unaware of it
Re: Drew Struzan poster.....
I appreciate seeing these again. I wanted the Shazam poster back in the day, but couldn't find it in stores, so I settled for Superman. I never knew that head was changed.
Incidentally, a small replica of the Spider-Man poster was included as one of the artifacts in the book The Spider-Man Vault by Peter David and Robert Greenberger printed by Running Press in 2010.

And for those people just tuning in...
Here's the poster that started the conversation over on another thread.

Re: Drew Struzan poster.....
Here is another look at the Superman poster. On the right is is Drew's painting on canvas of Superman
On the left is his Poster, the Face was done by another artist though.
And here is Drew's Spiderman pencil art and the finished poster. Also his original Wonder Woman concept. the poster was done by another artist though. Drew lost out on doing her
Re: Drew Struzan poster.....
Yeah, I'm not digging his Wonder Woman so much. Probably just as well they went another direction. Also is it just me or does "her" symbol on the left look like the "S.H.I.E.L.D." logo?
Interesting that DC seemed more willing to go bold with their interpretations, whereas Marvel stuck closer to the traditional "comic" look. Spidey in particular goes from a "real guy in a bodysuit" look in the draft to a standard Romita pose in the final. And Cap is just a Kirby cover pose (issue #193) with a paint job.
In a way, the Struzan stuff prefigures the Alex Ross material that would have fans all agog two decades later.

Re: Drew Struzan poster.....
Very cool to see the process on posters of this vintage.
Superman has been totally repainted... the pose and lighting have been preserved, but they've subdued the J.C. Leyendecker styling that Struzan incorporated in his original painting. It's an intriguing approach, but doesn't make a cohesive poster with the comic strip and logo elements.
