Batman 80th Anniversary Merchandise Coming Soon

Post by AndyFish »

Thought I'd start a thread for non 66 Batman related products coming out this year with the 80th anniversary. First up is this really nice Bendable figure from the fine folks at NJ Croce. I've a soft spot for bendies for some reason, and this one is posed and carded beautifully;

I'm also a sucker for the original character design so this hits me on all points. Already ordered mine.

That looks very cool. Thanks for starting the thread, Andy.

So far, I've pre-ordered 5 of the Detective Comics 1000 variants. I'm very angry with myself for getting five versions of the same book. I got the 30s-70s covers, if anyone was curious.

Oh, man!! That is an absolute must-have. Fantastic!

And like Mack, it was Gumby and Pokey that set me on my way. Not too many years after that it was Evel Knievel.

Ditto.
Our art studio has a wholesale account with them, we often give out these figures to kids at our art programs.

I don't see a way to purchase it on the site. Do you need a wholesale account to order from them ?

That's a great question Tyson-- here's the direct link;

I just got off the phone with my rep, they haven't landed yet-- expected arrival is April, which is appropriate since May is the anniversary despite DC Comics having Batman Day in September.

You mean to tell me by looking at the figure that the Great and Powerful Wizard of Batman, his excellency Frank Miller, FORGOT to include purple gloves on The Dark Knight Returns??? Oh, the horror.... 8-)

I love the way Batman looked in the beginning! I wish somebody would do an animated version of “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate”. If something like that exists, please let me know. I made a simple stop motion video of one of my first appearance figures.

The closest I've seen to an animated version of the original Batman look is in "Justice League: The New Frontier." The bat-ears on his mask are shifted upward compared with the Detective #27 appearance, and the lavender gloves are gone, but the round belt buckle and "ear-less" chest insignia are retained. The movie (based on Darwyn Cooke's excellent comic mini-series) also offers an explanation for Batman's adoption of a less severe look around the time of Robin's introduction.

This one comes awfully close. Albeit in black and white.
