Ultimate cowl #3 of 30 ,reporting for duty!

Post by Chuck Williams »

Each one of these is like my freakin' kid!! :D
Proud of every one of 'em!!!

#3 is sporting the first season paint style, which is a breeze to do with so many surface landmarks on this shell.
It also has the surprisingly effective extended ear paint to mask the ear attachment.

I do think it's fair to say I am having more fun than Lynne...

Can we get an in depth Chuck level explanation demonstrating the differences between this and the cosplay cowl? Maybe a side by side? I think all of them are beautiful but these have a little something extra I can't put my finger on (Material maybe?).

These cowls are made with the last of the original fabric.

The shell is the new player, having been created with a scan of an original cowl.

It is very asymmetrical but in all the familiar ways.
They have the front flaps hand sewn on like the originals.
They are also lined in chamois leather like the original we saw .
It's as close as we have ever gotten to the screen used cowl.

We did get close with the cowl we made a few years back using the other shell that traced back to the original.
This shell is just more detailed with virtually no interpretation necessary on my part.

The cosplay cowl is a lot more balanced and smoother in both fabric and shell. The front is all machine sewn and it is un-lined. It is not custom dyed fabric

The side by side is wild! Both are things of beauty.

Thanks Ben!!

I'm pretty happy with the Cosplay Cowl.
It seems to fit darn near everyone and is what I think most people expect.
Smooth, symmetry and professionally finished.

What I see most is the larger eyes based on the Hardeman cowl.
Those first season eyes are surprisingly small.

Thanks Andy!!! :)

Here's a new shot that shows just how assymetrical this is and also just how faithful this shell is.

Keeping in mind different angles, lens distortion, the fact that I can't squish the face in there and two subtly different paint jobs, I'm feeling pretty excited with this!

Even the way the front flaps want to come off the sideburns under the chin!!

These are astounding. This may have been talked about but how does the pilot cowl differ from these cowls?

I believe it was the same shell with different trimming in the front.
The cover fabric is the same with different ears and paint.

thank you, just great. I realize that Jan Kemp created the cowl but your craftsmanship is superior to that of the series. You can see the love, seriously.

Without Lynne, this would still be just a dream. :)
Her amazing skill in patternmaking and construction made this happen.
