Re: Before it was the pink cowl
Thanks Guys!!!
Nope, the inside wasn't sprayed at all.
I looked specifically for that but the only over spray I saw was from the blue when it got repainted.

Awesome job Chuck.
Even as a kid I thought having the entire cowl turn pink was goofy. Only the part that got sprayed would actually turn pink and be in a blotchy pattern on the sides of the cowl and none on the back (yes, I am over-analyzing it). And the cape didn't turn pink, or anything else on the costume.

So here it is dry and on the bust. Still need to clear coat it. The bust is unpainted.
As much as I wanted to make this as splotchy as the original, for a display piece it just looked like stuff!
I evened out the paint and while you can see some blue here and there, it's more even in color over the surface.
You can just make out the formerly black area.
When I took it off the form, it held it's shape just like when Batman was handing it over the screen to the doctor!
Alfred is going to have some fun with this I'm sure!.

Thanks AP!
In other images when he is walking around with it, you can see the tan chamois lining.

Re: Before it was the pink cowl
Chuck why does the pink cowl look like the lower rear part is ripped or detached in some way? I think there is an extension on the back of some cowls, so is this just not snapped or attached for this shot? Unless this is just the angle of the photo/cowl?

Yep, that's we call "The Banana" in the shop. It's a bib that is sewn on the back to help extend it under the cape without having a super long center section of the cowl.
I think on this particular cowl, the paint work is what makes it look and move oddly.
On the one I just painted, it flips up because it was the position it was painted in.

Wow-- this is incredible-- I have two Chuck Cowls-- I might have to give this a try.
I also have a handful of Mattel cowls (yes I have a problem)-- might try it with that too.

Is that a bright Peptobismal pink in person? When I was painting the smaller figures and busts, it didn’t seem right until I got the deep pink color. Excellent detective work. Is a Jervis hat next on the agenda?

I think I saw a picture of it in his studio.

Re: Before it was the pink cowl
Thanks so much Guys!!!
I'll get Lynne on the Batgirl cowl. That's her wheelhouse but I will lovingly nudge her!
We have matched a great silk fabric to a pair of her gloves for color and also matched the yellow of her cape.
The pink is a deep fluorescent pink with the slightest hint of red-orange.
It photographs all over the place but here's a shot when I was trying different setting that gives a good idea of the actual color. It's BRIGHT!
The two shots A.P. posted above of Jervis holding the cowl is a great example of the color too...
I think Chris Chaisson is your man for the Mad Hatter hat. He's already made one for himself and has sourced a great base hat. We've talked and he is excited to make a more authentic one with the new info from the auction.
