Rapid Fire Screenshotting/Screencapping...is this a thing?!

Post by crimsonskies »

Looking for advice/suggestions. If I were to play a DVD or YouTube video or any video for that matter, on my Laptop, is anyone aware of any software that would be able to take rapid fire screenshots

For example: Could I leave 30 seconds of footage playing and have something take 60+ screenshots for me automatically without me having to constantly pause and do it manually?

There's a bunch of different options for Mac and Windows (i'm a Mac user myself) but VLC is free and available for both and should be more than capable of doing what you described.

Here's a tutorial that walks you through the process of dealing with batch screen capturing:

I know Scott has dealt with this in the past, so he may be able to offer some more specific insight?

The VLC player (free for Windows, Mac and Linux) lets you extract frame grabs as you play a given video clip. The method is explained in section 2 of this webpage.

As far as I know, VLC requires you to have the video file stored on a local drive; I don't think it works with commercial DVDs or Blu-Rays.

Good luck!

"Recording Ratio" initially confused me, but sorted it now. Thankyou Jim and Ben. :D

How about that! Ben and I posted essentially the same advice 1 minute apart. The VLC Player trick is definitely a little wonky, so hopefully two tutorials are better than one. :)
