While working on the "Gold Key" covers, I did some experimenting with color correction and compositing in order to see just how Adam West would look in a black cowl, cape, gloves & trunks instead of the satin blue/purple. I think it gives him a bit of an edge, and the fabric looks more leathery.

It definitely changes the tone of the whole scene.

A different vibe for sure. I'm interested to see someone suited up wearing Chuck and Lynne's '66 inspired black leather cowl.

Cool!!! Yep, different vibe which may have made the comedy of some scenes pop even more.
Thanks Ben! There are a couple of folks putting them together as we speak...

Thought I'd put that to the test with this shot, and yeah it looks even more ludicrous.Chuck Williams wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 7:34 am Cool!!! Yep, different vibe which may have made the comedy of some scenes pop even more.
Love the leather cowl, Chuck. Looks like the in between stage from Adam's cowl to Keaton's cowl, especially as the brows are contoured and not painted on. Great work as always.

Re: Adam in Black
I actually like this look. It’s cool.
Re: Adam in Black
This looks pretty normal to those of us who saw Batman first in Black & White!
Re: Adam in Black
Did you notice the bat wings and head that make up the eyebrows. Well done!Chuck Williams wrote: ↑Thu Aug 20, 2020 7:34 am Cool!!! Yep, different vibe which may have made the comedy of some scenes pop even more.

I'm in with this looks normal to me-- I grew up with a black and white TV-- the first time I ever saw the show in color I couldn't believe Batman didn't wear black.

Re: Adam in Black
Do you all think the blue color scheme was chosen just because it was an "in color" program and they wanted to be different than all the black and white shows?

Re: Adam in Black
I think it was that the comics made it look more blue than black for years. The all black in the shadows motif thing didn't catch on until around the Keaton era. Of course, the earliest comic appearances for the first few stories went mostly black but with plenty of blue from the get go. Then it kept showing more and more blue very quickly.
Re: Adam in Black
Our friends at Tweeterhead had a limited edition black and white Adam West Batman but the belt and bat emblem were still yellow. Sort of a Batman Noir. If you search the merchandise section, you can still find pictures.

I plan to paint my Moebius model of Adam. I'm going to make a noir-ish insignia for it.

I think the black colors work if the emblem and the utility belt was colored gold.
