Gotham license plate ID

Post by wally wingert »

Hey gang! My pals at Profiles in History (now Heritage Auctions) came across an interesting piece that needs some detective work done.

It's a license plate that was allegedly used on the show. Can any of you keen-eyed detectives pinpoint which vehicle(s) this might have been on?

The font looks correct.
I have about 19 plate captures from the show (pre bluray quality) and this is not one of them!
The search goes on!

Not Mr Freeze's ice cream van, not one of the police cars, not Leo's van-- can't see the plate on Catwoman's jaguar, can't see the plate on the ambulance Bruce falls out of.

I'm with AP-- it looks authentic font and color wise but it also looks unused to me.

Thanks! It seems like it was used, because on the back of the plate are three blobs of glue. So it seems like it might have been attached to something. Keep checking, detectives...please!

I've scanned the bluray and have found some more plates but not the one in question.
Now here is something, the Wayne Limo, looks like BM-1000 ? but it should be "BW"-1000 for "Bruce Wayne" perhaps.

I have little doubt it's not real, by not used I just meant on one of the big cars, i.e. it doesn't look like it was driven around hard on some of those dirt roads around Desilu back in the day. My guess is a parked car, but budget wise not every car in "Gotham" got a license plate, far from it.

The Blu Rays are our best chance of figuring it out. What's the deadline on this, Wally?

Sooooooo
In my efforts with Ben to figure out all of the Bat Locations, I have screen captures of every exterior shot from every episode off of Blu-ray totaling about 70,000 images in all. I scrolled through and checked out every scene that had cars in it including trucks vans and so on. Out of all the legible plates and nearly legible plates, I could not find this one. There were certainly plenty of plates I could not make out. The one thing that I did notice was the ongoing practice of blacking out the front plates (especially on police vehicles) with what seemed like a large black sock like cover. Also, the Blue van didn't always use the same Gotham plate. One more piece of trivia stuck in my head now.

I want my life back.

Here is a plate that went up for auction that I was able to locate a screen grab for. I made this montage in 2016 I think auction was 2007?? note both plates differ in 1966 vs CITY on the plate, but looks like CITY was added later. Similar in style and font and color, so probably the one in question is genuine however we can't find a screen grab of it.....yet!

This is the best closest screen grab from the series of a plate (Death In Slow Motion episodes) The "GOTHAM 1966" are identical on both plates.

I skimmed through the movie (not the blu-ray.) Majority vehicles are in the pier scenes but are either obscured by objects or too distant/blurry to decipher.

Movie was a good thought. Budget wise would they have struck 1967 plates for beyond Season 1 and the movie? I doubt it.
Season Three maybe? Anyone ever pull over Catwoman or The Joker?

I have a possible match - check your Blu-Ray for the matte shot of the bridge in "The Bookworm Turns" and look at the blue Plymouth Barracuda on the lower right. My image from DVD isn't as sharp but the first two digits could be "47".

By the way, the "7A-8347" plate makes at least one more appearance - on that oft-seen green Humber Super Snipe during "The Riddler's False Notion":

Scott has an AI enhance software that has really helped us with some of the research we've been doing for the location book, but this may be testing its limits...but it might be worth a try!
