Looking for the earliest siting of the Gila cowl
Hi All,
I'm attempting a timeline post show of the cowl or cowls Adam had after the show.
The last published images of Adam in a production made cowl was 1975.
The "London Cowl" was used in 1975 and 1976.
The "Gila Cowl" was used in the Legends Show in 1979.
Any documented shots of the Gila cowl in 76 or earlier?
If there is an overlap it would mean he had two cowls after the show.
If not, there is a possiblity he only had the one that was recovered to become the London Cowl and then recovered again to become the Gila Cowl.
Just a Wednesday thought ...

What cowl was he using in his 1976 wrestling face off with Jerry “the King” Lawler?

Not to contradict someone's first hand account, but Adam's trip to London to promote the "Batman and Robin" Target record, (including his famous appearance with Sally James on Saturday Scene) was the week of May 14th, 1976. This is all nice and fresh in my mind from my recent appearance on To The Batpoles Podcast where we talked about Batmania in the UK.A. Looks like Chuck is right about the Lawler cowl. Selfridges is based in London, and that looks to be the same cowl he was wearing when he met Jerry Lawler.

I'll have to track him down and ask. If this is indeed his image and the date checks, this would show an overlap...A. Pennyworth wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 4:35 pm this facebooker says 1972 he got AW autograph and shows this photo, is it one he took then? not sure

I know there’s the five o’clock shadow and it’s a less than stellar photo as far as grain goes, but that really looks/feels like ‘78 or ‘79 Adam to me?Chuck Williams wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2023 5:52 amI'll have to track him down and ask. It's unfortunate that the airline lost his luggage with the actual costume in it. It would've been great to see him in the full regaliaJim K, Bat fan wrote: ↑Wed Apr 12, 2023 6:09 pmWow! I have never seen this clip before with Jerry Lawler!![]()

These are some fantastic photos a lot of which I've never seen. Thanks for posting

I would not be surprised if that was a fabrication. It sounds like Adam was suffering a nasty head cold when he was appearing on the wrestling show, though I've heard it said that he was either drunk or hung over at the recording. Either way, I would not be surprised if he just didn't feel well enough to put on the entire costume and just went with the cowl, gloves and a black track suit.BatmiteReturns wrote: ↑Thu Apr 13, 2023 8:40 pm It's unfortunate that the airline lost his luggage with the actual costume in it. Adam & Burt made an appearance in 1976 at the World Color Press Day celebration at the high school gymnasium in Sparta, IL (where they used to print the comics). It was a very hot day, and it was sweltering inside that gymnasium. It got so hot inside, that my dad made us leave early before Adam & Burt arrived. We got to hear them on the local radio station which was broadcasting their appearance, and they both mentioned that their costumes fell off the small plane they used to fly into the the town's airfield. I'm guessing they decided it was too hot to wear them and made up the story to appease their young fans.
Naturally I was upset that I missed seeing them. My dad attempted to make up for our early departure by taking us to Kentucky Fried Chicken for lunch.
