3rd Season Batmobile by Jazzinc

Post by Lou Szabo »

Jazzinc is exploring the interest in a 3rd season 1966 Batmobile. The link is a discussion of all the differences between Season 1 and later changes, assembled by Mr Pennyworth.

I know some will go crazy against this version, but for the completists who can afford it, these may be a nice addition.

I was aware of the changes to the car over the '66 - '68 period, but none were either bothersome or important that I would not be happy to have the 3rd season version.

This could be interesting too as an option for folks who didn't jump on the original run. I for one "ummed" and "ahhhed" for a little too long and the version I was interested in was gone.

Ben, I can remember a time when you could buy a brand new real car for less, so don’t feel too bad about missing out.

If I don’t have the season one car, I might be tempted. I remember the heated discussions about accuracy almost 20 years ago on the Batmobile forum. It’s great to see acceptance of both versions

I feel I’ll pass on this one. I too am retired, and decided to keep my first 1966 that I got from them…so any additional “Pensioner” funding will go towards a Jazz Inc. 1966 Batman, and Batcave items. Hopefully, these occur.

The 3rd season "edition" probably wouldn't even be a thought if my website didn't point all the changes over the series!

If they're going to do all this work for a reissue, now that JazzInc has more money and experience, I wish they would update it with real metal Chrome for the rims, beacon, dash, and frame canopies. But they don't want to do too much like that.

But what JazzInc should do is make a separate accessory pack of open deployed Bat-Chutes. They can make them out of cloth and lacquer them. Anyone who buys a 1966 or 1968 Batmobile will want one. They're cool looking, dramatic, designed by George Barris, and give the car a sense of being in motion.

As someone that makes things for a living, including a few limited editions in my time, this is just trying to justify a re-issue.

The most expensive parts are done.

Many of the "changes" are actually removing parts and making it less expensive to make.

Other things like the less glossy paint, that for a real fan of the car would be seen as an improvement over the original production, would make me feel like my original run car is "less than" since I was out voted, but now the maker is making the decision for us.

I would feel better about it if they just said that they are doing another run exactly as the first since the license widened their market.
That was a seismic change that I can forgive.
Live and learn.

I don't like the idea of paying for their R&D only to allow them to sell another model that may or may not be less expensive to make, therefore more profitable for them, but the collectors feel compelled to buy to complete their collection. Heads I win, tales you lose.

My two cents.

They made a BvS Batmobile and a Justice League Batmobile, which is BVS with minor changes, then offered a kit to go back and forth between the two. Also, when the 89 is released, and later they release a ‘92 that converts to a batmissile, will that be an issue.

I’d rather have a 66 and a 68 fixed edition than an expanded 66.
