Usually when they do the modern take on Doc he has a ripped shirt-- this must be a fresh from the dry cleaners version. Goes nice with Mezco's Shadow which was one of their best figures.

I have the Shadow Figure was gifted it by a great friend, hopefully they supply a torn shirt too, or it’s a easy mod

Sacrilege Mike! You would actually attempt to tear that clearly Sears Brand shirt that Doc is wearing? I think you'll end up hurting yourself! ;)
I like the figure-- I don't know if I'd get it-- these are getting more and more expensive. At one point I had both Dark Knight figures but I didn't like how tight the uniforms were and I sold them when they were going for crazy numbers. Mezco has done a number of Batman figures (and still rumored to be doing a '66) but none of them have hit home for me. I was at an antique store yesterday and the absolutely not antique Mezco Ascending Knight Batman figure was in one of the glass cases for $50-- and I still passed.
All right, I've de-railed Doc's thread enough-- keeping it timely for those who were disappointed Ron Ely didn't sport this extreme widow's peak when he played Doc in '75-- the Golden Age Doc had the Ron Ely haircut.

Didn't the pulp magazines show Doc with a more Clark Gable-ish hair cut? I thought the widow's peak to the extreme became the style when James Bama did the covers for the paperbacks.

Exactly youthful ward-- the pulp Doc had the traditional Ely haircut-- it wasn't until the 70s reprints that he got the bizarre helmet haircut.

I remember watching it when it came on television. Still remember the theme music, but haven’t seen it since then. I always thought that it was a pilot for a potential TV series that never came to fruition. I suppose I could just look that up, but just shooting from the hip here.

It did feel like a pilot, and in some ways it was; Fantasy producer George Pal intended to launch a series of films to follow the success of the James Bond films (The Doc novel reprints were hot sellers at the time) and he even filmed some footage for the first sequel but the film flopped so badly it ended any chance of more.

It is overly campy-- apparently the widow of Doc's creator Lester Dent loved the movie so much she saw it multiple times on opening day-- I myself have read a handful of Doc novels and while they have fun elements they never connected with me the way The Shadow did.

The Movie is available from Amazon on DVD is available on Streaming on Vudu (now called Fandango) and apparently there are a new series of Doc Savage books by James Patterson. Patterson also started a new series of Shadow books which in my opinion connect to the original character in only the vaguest way.

I remember watching the Doc Savage movie when I was a kid and liking it quite a bit. I loved the idea of a guy leading a crew of experts to go off and have adventures. I didn’t realize it was based on till I saw them on the liquor store down the street where I bought my computers. Doc Savage sat next to the Conan and Tarzan novels.
I never connected with “The Shadow” as I only encountered him through the radio show reruns and he seemed too creepy for me.
I never wanted to encounter anyone who knew what lurked in my heart (mainly a mad crush on Batgirl and Wonder Woman).

Better yet, there's also a "Baumhofer" head to go with the Bamas.

Still awfully pricey, though...

While the Mezco's were never cheap-- it is shocking that they are almost double their initial prices when they were first introduced. They get a lot of things right, they also miss the boat (IMO) especially with the proportions-- the bodies always seem a bit too squat for me-- which is interesting because most 1/6 scale figures are usually too lanky.

I have a friend who collects the Mezco figures. His biggest issue is that the company does things ALMOST right, but not quite. For example, they made those Star Trek figures, including variations, but they don’t have a Dr. McCoy?

My “almost-but-not-quite” issue is with the 1966 Batman five point articulation set. It’s well done, and yet… FIVE point articulation!? Funko’s 1/18 scale figures have better articulation. I just don’t get limiting those figures to five points of articulation, but it is otherwise a beautiful set.

You can imagine how I feel with a McFarlane Captain Kirk that apparently will never even get a Spock to hang out with, let alone the rest of the crew.

The only Mezco figure I own is a Mirror Universe Spock I snagged for about $12. It's pretty cool, but I don't think I'll ever be able to bring myself to shell out $100 and up for a 6-inch figure.
