1/6 and 1/9 scale ‘66 GH and Kato head sculpts on eBay

Post by BiffPow »

Saw these 3D resin head sculpts on eBay. You would never find them if you were looking for “Green Hornet” or “Kato.” Includes a gas gun.

There is a photo of an actual set (unpainted), if you scroll past the 3-D rendering illustrations.

Seller has 100% satisfaction and over 1800 rating.

Shared them with a friend of mine who is a big fan of the show and very skeptical of 3-D renderings but, on seeing the photo, decided to order. Price is quite reasonable ($30, including the gas gun).

Thought I would share. Photos are from his listing.

His other listings are interesting. The names are sometimes hilarious. (E.g: Jonathan Frid/Barnabas Collins sculpt is called “Low Budget Vampire”). There are various Batman head sculpts as well. One Mego style is called “slightly unnerving man.”🤣

Classic Tv Toys are a solid company - I’ve seen some of their stuff in person and it looks better than it photographs. From what I can tell, these heads are as good the paint job that they get given by the buyer.

Mike M and I bought some custom serial heads from this guy, or at least I've definitely bought something from him- might be the low budget vampire-- and while I would recommend against classictvtoys because they fall apart I've used them with the modern Mego bodies and they're top notch.

Ben is right though, if you don't have painting skills your mileage will vary. Just remember they always paint better if you prime them.

Fortunately, my friend is good at detail work and painting. His models look like the real thing in photographs.

Those heads look better on the bodies than they do to me in the colorized pictures.

BTW, there is another source on Ebay too. I thought these looked a little better, but they also cost a little more.

I have been working on a Mego style Black Beauty for some time now. My car sculpting skills are getting better with each attempt but so far, I haven't been happy with it yet. It's actually a tough one to design because it has a roof and four doors, so to make it work with the Batmobile sizing and styling it needs to be squished and probably have a removable roof and non-opening doors. I'm getting close though.

😮😃

I’m sure:

(1) it will look fantastic when you’re finished, and;

(2) you will have requests for that one, too, Randy.

My advice about the Black Beauty as a Mego production: remember, as Mego progressed through the 1970s, their design work on figures and vehicles improved, so i'd like to imagine if Mego had the GH property, a late 70s Black Beauty would not be as stubby as the Batmobile, probably with greater surface detail.

BTW, if you've made Mego-scale GH and Kato figures, what are you using for the costumes? Or, are you willing to borrow the cloth costumes from the early 2000s Medicom "Real Action Hero 220" 8.7-inch (size often stated) GH & K 2-pack, as seen below?

GH looks half-startled and half-offended (perhaps to see a “giant” staring at him through the cellophane).
