Re: Bat cave Atomic Pile
I just bought new PVC pipe to make new legs with I did not like the other legs where I pieced them together was always going to leave a seam that would show through painting.
So I ditched those and will make new ones.

Re: Bat cave Atomic Pile
Just a little update to let you know I am still working on the project.
I just cut 4 new legs for the atomic pile the first set were in two pieces each trying to get the height right and as much as I sanded and filled I could not hide the seam! So I decided if I was starting over I may as well fix that problem too. Nothing dramatic so no pics this time but there will be lots of pic's as this build progresses.
Stay tuned maybe not the same Bat time but it will be the same Bat channel

Re: Bat cave Atomic Pile
So you're working on Atomic Pile 3.0 right now? Wow... I'm definitely on the site intermittently, but I'm amazed at all the progress pics from all versions. The catwalks alone from 2.0 looked so amazing! I can't even begin to figure out how you would plan and execute something without firm dimensions to work with and only scale based on photos which would be so tricky to the eye depending on angles and perspective. FASCINATING!
1.0 looked amazing and I can't wait to see how 3.0 is going. I've always been a fan of 6" scale (1:12, I believe) so I'm the dreamer that wants the full Batcave playset to work with, and I'm a grown man of 32 years. Your Atomic Pile would be an amazing centerpiece. And if you could get the center to light up and fluctuate, brighten and dim, etc... Dreams from a dreamer. Have you settled on a scale? That might help you determine measurements, if you determine Adam West as 6' tall, and then look at photos to determine how long and tall the levels of the catwalks need to measure out to scale with him, and then translate that to the 6" action figures, where one inch=one foot. It could give you the basis you need to plan measurements into the whole thing. Know anyone with an architectural background?
Anyway, looking forward to see you working through 3.0!

Re: Bat cave Atomic Pile
Well I started working on the new legs I cut I have them taped off to paint the stripes at the top and bottom.
I am guessing on the size and positioning of them see the pics below and let me know what you think.

Also I have started on the bases for the legs I picked up some plastic bolts I thought looked like they would be the right size if this was the real Atomic Pile. Let me know what you think on the bases and the size of the bolts I don't want to buy all of them if they are not right.
I only had one perspective photo that shows four bolt heads holding the Atomic Pile to the floor,
I have no Idea if they were functional or just set dressing. But given the size of the real AP some of them may have been bolted to the floor. I know they like to move the set pieces around but my guess is that the AP was too big and costly to move then set back up each time they needed it.
Since there was no picture showing bolts on all four sides I went with two sides.

I am stumped on what color the stripes are I thought at first bronze but I could not find that color that looked right. What colors should I use for the legs and the stripes?
I need your feedback as always.
Thanks
Charles

Re: Bat cave Atomic Pile
Well I finally got the layout drawing from my son and have started building the catwalks again.
Here is the drawing it is taped together for now but I plan on getting it printed on one sheet of paper at work.
The lower catwalk drawing is coming and just needs to be printed.
I ran out of materials so I will have to order more. Check out the pictures below and as always your feedback and comments are welcomed and appreciated.

And for the very first time in my project.....Drum Roll Please......
Wait for it!

*************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************************

This is a test of the color scheme for the legs I really need you guys to comment on this good or bad I don't want to proceed until I see feedback.
More views of the test paint leg.

If you want to know how I got the PVC pipe to look like duct pipe I wrapped it with painters tape and painted that. I think it looks great! what do you guys think?
I am planning on using masking tape on the real legs I think that should stick pretty good that's the only thing I am worried about the tape peeling off.
More to come stay tuned!
