I in no way want to disparage the wonderful Ms. Newmar, but I don’t trust some of her recollections of the show. I remember seeing, or reading (just want to point out that my memory isn’t so great either), an interview where she said her Catwoman never used a whip. In actuality, Catwoman used a whip in several episodes.

And of course, the best example of a faulty recollection is the Catwoman costume she donated to the Smithsonian. A number of members on this board have seen the display in person and they say that what is on display isn’t what she wore on the TV show. I come to that conclusion just from looking at the photos of the Smithsonian display.

We shouldn’t be surprised that she doesn’t remember certain details of a TV show that was made 50 years ago. How many of us can remember details of something we did 50 years ago? Of course, we remember certain things because they just stick in our minds for some reason, but most of the everyday stuff is quickly forgotten. These episodes were filmed 50 years ago, and she was just a guest star so she was only on the set for a week or so each time.

I don't. Times passes, memories get hazy, and people tend to believe what their opinions are now were always their opinions. Especially a celebrity. The evidence being, Julie did not leave the show! David Wayne didn't like doing 'The Mad Hatter' for whatever reason and left! According to Julie's remembrances, she only left Batman because of the film 'McKenna's Gold'. That's been questioned by some because of the timing. But that is probably the way she remembers it.

Diane McBain has never indicated that Wayne was miserable during the MH shooting, which means this might be yet another of the many myths and urban legends that have emerged over the last half-century.

Adam West never mentioned anything about David Wayne being unhappy either when he talks about working with him in his autobiography Back to the Batcave.

Well seriously even if he knew, would he? His book was about Adam's experiences on the show, and his life. The Book wasn't called 'Back to Batcave, My Thoughts on David Wayne!' :) Here, take a gander at this pengs.

An actor unhappy or depressed about playing a role on his show? I think he most definitely would have mentioned it. He mentions how other actors loved being part of the show, so why would he neglect to mention one who wasn't?

It's a fan blog, and it doesn't even cite any sources for the info. So how do we know it's credible?

:) Ha! Nice. These guys have been referenced again and again on this forum. And this is a fan forum! We're all fans right? I've never heard anything but good things about their blog. Great insight into the series. But yeah I wish David Wayne had done a dozen more episodes. The two he did were fantastic. Unlike many others.

David Wayne returns as the Jervis Tetch, the Mad Hatter in a role he wanted nothing to do with. As I pointed out in his first appearance, Wayne didn't want to come back to the show. He said, "It was too tough to get me to do a second one. They held a gun to my head to do it. They had already written a script for the Mad Hatter, and I said I wouldn’t do it. So they used all the strength of the studio in order to force me to do it. Finally, I just gave in. I just thought it was cheap and, beneath me, really, as a performer. But strangely enough, most of the fan mail I get is from people who knew and loved BATMAN and new kids who still see it.”

And here's what I just did to you.

Just kidding! But really, it's an enjoyable blog and a great resource. And for such a popular show, there are fewer than you might think.

I'm not doubting the popularity of the blog, or the effort put into it. But these guys being referenced on this forum a lot doesn't mean all their information is legitimate. I mean if David Wayne really spoke out publicly about this then surely there would be some more credible source that supports this other than a fan written blog. That's all I'm saying.

Here's some new research from Variety:

Julie Newmar was initially signed for the role of Catwoman on February 3, 1966.

"Mackenna's Gold" began filming May 16, 1967 on location in Grant's Pass, Oregon. Julie filmed her Star Trek episode in late May. On June 14, Variety reports, "In addition to the new array of stars guesting, Horwitz has set as repeaters Cliff Robertson, Vincent Price, Burgess Meredith, Victor Buono, Cesar Romero and Julie Newmar. Miss Merrill and her husband, Robertson, will appear in the same show."

The same day, they wrote: "Greer Garson, Ethel Merman, Rudy Vallee, Eartha Kitt, Dina Merrill have been set as guest heavies on "Batman" on ABC-TV next season by producer Howie Horwitz."

On July 5, the third season begins production.

On September 14, Julie began filming "Monsieur Lecoq" on location in France. She rented a flat in London for two years but only stayed six months. On November 27, the unfinished film is put on hold due to "tricky location weather conditions." Stills from the canceled production with Zero Mostel and Julie appeared in the September 1969 issue of Playboy.

She talks about the film here: http://www.rockcellarmagazine.com/2013/ ... 3rRvG.dpbs

Eartha Kitt films her first Catwoman episode in mid-October. On November 29, Variety reports "Eartha Kitt bows as Catwoman."

Great research, Bob, as always. Thanks for clearing this up once and for all.

Did Variety ever mention that Joan Collins had signed on to guest? Just curious.

It's my pleasure!

No, Variety does not mention Joan Collins signing for the show.
