Bat suit not dyed?

Post by DrSparkey »

Hi everyone....
I've done some searches and poked around the site a bit but have not found any threads about any Bat body suit material that you don't have to dye. I know a lot of people are using the the dance suits then dying the correct color. I want to do a '66 style suit but I want to use an unconventional body suit pattern, and would like to try to find a spandex that is "close enough" to the right color...rather than dying it.

Also spandex world is having a big 4th of July sale right now and was hoping to get some ideas from folks on the board...enough to place an order for body suit, cape, gloves, and shorts material....

Thanks again for the help and any ideas....

No source that I know of for "ready to wear" tight fabric.
Not even a color that is "close enough" right off the bolt.

I had a swatch sent to me from a client of a fabric that he found and wanted to use for the same reason. He didn't want to dye it.
It wasn't a perfect color match but certainly worked for what he was doing.

It's one of those things that I feel require poking around fabric stores to find a fabric and color you like.

Thanks Chuck for the info...I've seem to find the same thing. Nothing that works right off the shelf.

I was thinking of buying a few yards of Supplex Spandex and just using the dye formula.

What weight do you think would work best?

Medium weight:

or

Heavy weight:

Thanks again,

I'm not familiar with what they call heavy or medium weight so swatches are probably the best bet.

Heavy sounds good but what I would call heavy is used for yoga pants and a bit thick for tights.

Thanks Chuck, not too much difference in the medium or heavy weight.
Heavy being 6oz/ sq yard
and
Medium being 5oz/ sq yard

Those are both fairly light so go "Heavyweight" in my opinion.

You'll probably want to double up the fabric on the front panel of your leotard.
