Cesar Romero Joker costume

Post by 66BatmanLover » Fri Sep 28, 2012 1:13 pm

So, I want to be Cesar Romero's Joker for Halloween this year and since (as far as i know) there's no official (Cesar Romero) Joker costume. I DO NOT want to be that cheap immitation Heath Ledger. I want to be the BEST Joker ever! So, I'm gonna have to put my own costume together from scratch. Anybody know where I can find the appropriate items for my costume???

cool that sounds way awesome mate I would say best thing would be to find really good pics of Cesar as the joker and try to copy his costume by scratch building it either sew the costume yourself by making your own templates from looking at the pics taking them into a fabric store and buying fabric that is the closest to his or get someone else to sew to costume together for you if you want it to not look cheap and be the same, good luck and can't wait to see your results :D

I did this two years ago. To be accurate I had the idea and wore the costume, I in no way have the talent to pull off the costume that resulted. A friend who is an accomplished costumer for a community theater did all the heavy lifting. We started with screenshots of Cesar (my costumer actually watched episodes I gave her) and went to a local fabric store. Note this isn't a mainline fabric store, it was down in an industrial area and is a wholesaler to the JoAnns of the world. Find a place like that in your area. Then it was hours walking around to find just the right fabric. I had a few screenshots saved on my phone to help us with color. We found, to my mind, a great match and bought enough to make the outfit (I relied on my friend to tell me how much). Then we wandered around in the "accessories" area to find buttons etc. The fabric didn't have the stripes, she applied those to the pants after they were completed. She sewed them on.

I believe she started with a tuxedo pattern and modified as needed to match Cesar's outfit. As for the shirt we were going to buy a white tux shirt an dye it but we got lucky and she was at a thrift store (looking for stuff for other costumes) and found a great shirt. The color may be slightly off in a side by side with Caesar. You can't see it in these pics but the sleeves were to short for my baboon like arms so she cut the sleeves and sewed in black armbands. It looks like old time casino dealers. In the comic books of the 60s and 70s Joker sometimes was seen w/o jacket and he sported that look. It was important because the main fabric was very heavy and I knew that at parties etc there would be times when I'd want to remove the jacket.

Socks were dyed and shoes were pretty straight forward. The gloves were also dyed. Bought them at a Halloween store, they started as white. We went to a local theater supply store for the make up and picked up the supplies. The big thing there was the "fixer" which keeps stuff from running. I sweat like a thief and had no problems with running (the pic attached wasn't at any of the "main" parties so we put the makeup on in hurry hence the areas around my neck). The mouth / lips were drawn on again using stills from the show. The only thing I didn't like was the hair. Without spending an arm and leg for a real hair wig (I sport a "high and tight" so my own hair was out of the question) we did the best we could. I've since found better hair coloring. For this year's female costume we needed to go to a store featuring stripper clothing and they had great hair coloring (who knew? I guess strippers did, but I didn't poll them for suggestions). Give it a whirl maybe you'll have luck.

Note I had to really minimize the Joker only photos to post them. Some detail was lost.

EDIT double posted a pic, fixed that

Oooooohhhh!!! That is a NICE outfit! I love it.

The green hair is outrageous! Perfect.

Darn it! There is no smiley for drooling!

Oh well, consider the outfit drooled over.

I was thinking of doing this for this year, but it's too intimidating, so I'm going to buy a zen tai Riddler costume and call it a day.

Not a problem for those with sufficient talent.
