Batman Copycats

Post by Yellow Oval »

Was there any Batman copycats anyone got a kick out of? I would see them here and there from time to time such as the cartoon Courageous Cat and Minute Mouse (also by Batman's Bob Kane). My personal favorite would have to be Electra Woman and Dyna-Girl. 8-)

NBC's answer to the show was "Captain Nice," a sitcom about an ordinary guy who's secretly a superhero, and starred William Daniels. I happened to catch a few episodes on YouTube before they got yanked, and it actually had good potential--not surprising given that the people behind Get Smart were producing it.

Unfortunately, by the time it premiered in January 1967, the extreme popularity of Batman was fading, and it only lasted half a season.

I always liked Dynomutt and The Blue Falcon. I thought there was a similarity in the humour.

Electro Woman was played by Deidra Hall who was/is Marlena on Day's of our lives. Some one told me Dyna-girl was played by a young Debra Winger. I'm not sure it's Winger though.

Judy Strangis , sister of Batman 66 production manager Sam Strangis played Dynagirl. Debra Winger was Wondergirl.

Judy Strangis was in two Batman episodes - The Bat's Kow Tow and The Cat's Meow 10 years before Electra Woman and Dyna-Girl.

There are other copy-cats(parodies) to consider, "George of the jungle'" was a parody of Tarzan. Quick Draw Magraw was a take off of Zorro. Dudley do-right was a take off of the Lone ranger. This is a bit of a stretch, but the idea of the Flinstones(I read some where)was taken from the Honey mooners.
