Matty Cowl
Has anyone tried modifying the Mattel cowl eyebrows yet? I was going to attempt to change mine, then, after watching 2 specific episodes, Ma Parker & Clock King eps. I noticed the brows are actually very close to what Matty did as far as placement, even the light blue color. Maybe his piece isn't so incorrect?

Re: Matty Cowl
I saw one cosplayer on Facebook repaint one.
It is absolutely modifiable.
The original cowl brow and nose paint shapes changed drastically during the run of the show so they are open to interpretation for sure.
The Mattel cowl is simply a little heavy handed with the line thickness in my opinion.
The nose shapes are the most distracting thing to me but it is what it is.
A nice piece that allows people to experience a truer '66 bat cowl feel than the vintage Ideal helmet.
That said, I would not waste a second trying to critically or seriously compare it to the cowl on the show though.
A different animal altogether.

Here's what it could look like (right) with a mod of the existing brows:
Re: Matty Cowl
I actually saw those photo shopped pics and they look pretty good. I know it will never be "like the show" , but I was thinking the same thing about thinning out the brows and maybe re-locating the nose line just a bit. Being an avid model railroader on the side here also, I am pretty good with an airbrush. I was just curious as to if anybody actually did try modifying theirs. In all honesty, I would love one of your cowls Chuck, they simply look to be the best ones out there for sure, but that's just not in the cards for me, at least not at this time.

I'm glad that Scott Bayles linked to us and acknowleged credit for adapting our cowl template from our pattern set for his download.
The download gives me a chance to see the layout of the Mattel cowl.
Looks like the nose is just under 1/2" longer and the black area is about 5/8" higher than my basic paint work.
Really makes me curious to see what it would have looked like if they hadn't used one of ours during product development.

Re: Matty Cowl
I actually pondered attempting to lower the nose line a slight bit to get it even with the bottom of the eyes, but I eventually decided against it because of the seam between the nose and the black. Seeing as they did use yours as a model, I am guessing it may have looked worse. It would have taken almost nothing to print those lines in the correct spots to begin with. Again as you stated in an earlier post, its not exact to the series, but for the money, not a bad cowl. I am glad I re-did mine though.

Without a doubt there are worse cowls out there for far more money!
I think my photo says more about art versus commerce. At least that is my intent.

Re: Matty Cowl
I agree. Yours is absolutely a work of art no doubt, I also agree on the nose profile.
Re: Matty Cowl
Here is the cowl put together with my not yet completed suit. Still need gloves and boots. The gloves I'm wearing are just nave blue satin opera gloves for effect.

Re: Matty Cowl
Batman65 your batman costume looks really good. Congratulations sir.
I wonder about the Matty cowl, when its repainted it looks good except for the nose like you all said. I'm curious if it were possible to trim an inch or so off? Might change the profile a bit.

Re: Matty Cowl
You really cannot trim the nose because of the way it's molded. I did toy with lowering the nose line though but decided against it because of the seam between the black and the blue. It still looks so much better. The costume is not done yet. The gloves are just navy blue opera gloves for effect and the chest emblem is just printed on paper and stuck on, again for effect. Thank you for the wonderful compliment.
