Batman '66: 1973 ABC Saturday Morning Cartoons Sneek Peek with Jack Burns and Avery Schreiber

It was the 1973 ABC Saturday Morning Funtime Preview hosted by the comedy duo of Jack Burns and Avery Schreiber, two Borscht Belt comedians who looked totally lost pitching the new years Saturday morning cartoons to all the kid. There are very few programs from 1973 that have held the test of time, with the Super Friends being the most famous, but 1973 was also the year that both pop star Rick Springfield and Lassie got their own cartoons, and Yogi Bear and all the gang went all ecology crazy on the adventures of Yogi's Ark Lark. It was a real wreck of a year for cartoons, and the preview show was as bad as you possibly can imagine it. But still there's something about watching future Love Connection host Chuck Woolery as the Man of Steel that's hard not to like. That and this picture of Rick Springfield and Yogi Bear just hanging out
I really wish the second half of this was posted but at least we get to see Batman '66 meet Superman.

At 4:17 notice that Batman (played by ...?) almost takes a header off the step.
I guess you really can't look down out of that cowl!
"To the medical eye, such childish claptrap means only one thing, young man: You need some sleep."

Rick Springfield had an accent?! I just looked it up, and he's from Australia. All this time, I never knew...
"You were right again, Batman. We might have been killed."
"Or worse."
"Or worse."

My wife said the same thing, "That's not him" I said yes it is, he is from down under. She didn't believe me..lolSprangFan wrote:Rick Springfield had an accent?! I just looked it up, and he's from Australia. All this time, I never knew...

I've read that Kurtwood Smith ("Red" from That '70s Show) is playing Batman but can't be certain
It looks like they had most of the costume save for the utility belt - here's a grab of the cowl for the sleuths on this board to ponder over.

I was going to say no way that's Kurtwood Smith, but then I watched again and I just don't know. If it's him, he's uncredited, and would languish in obscurity another 7 years before finally getting a credit in "Soap," according to IMDB.
That is one shiny cowl. With "angry" eyebrows!
Also just noticed the stuntman who flies in as Superman has a very different costume from Chuck Woolery's.

The shine kind of reminds me of the Ogawa mask. Here's a side-by-side of the Saturday cartoon cowl w/ the PSA cowl Dick Gautier wore from the same era plus a grab of the cowl Adam wore on the Legends of the Superheroes special in 1979. Top 2 look like they are the same cowl. The Legends cowl was re-covered/repainted but with not enough material for it to lay under the cape. Wonder if this is the same shell as the top 2?

It seems that who ever played Batman is one of the big mysteries. What gets me is this is as close as we my get to seeing Batman 66 meet Superman, but what shame they could not get Adam West to play Batman.
